The College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) participated in iSUSTAIN 2025, a research seminar and exhibit held at the University of Eastern Philippines (UEP) Gymnasium last June 17 - 18, 2025 showcasing its commitment to advancing innovative and sustainable research initiatives.
Organized to foster collaboration and innovation, the International Conference on Science Uniting Social, Health, and Environmental Aims for Innovation and Networking (iSUSTAIN 2025) brought together academic institutions, researchers, and students in a two-day event focused on promoting forward-thinking solutions to local and global challenges.
The event highlighted excellence and expertise by featuring speakers who presented their current research. Among them was CVMโs own faculty member and university professor, Dr. Gerry Amor Camer, who delivered a presentation on โIntegrating Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Molecular DNA Synthesis and LAMP Primer Designs,โ a study that underscores the growing relevance of AI and machine learning in scientific innovation.
In addition to the exhibits and local contributions, the event featured a lineup of distinguished speakers who shared updates from their respective research fields.
Among the notable speakers were:
โข Dr. Karsten Liber from the University of Saskatchewan, a recognized authority in environmental toxicology;
โข Dr. Sheevun Di O. Guliman-Qudsi, a professor from MSU-IIT known for her work in biological sciences;
โข Dr. Juliene Thesa Y. Baldo-Cubelo from the College of Media and Communication, University of the Philippines Diliman, who specializes in communication research;
โข Dr. Venecio U. Ultra, Jr., a DOST Balik-Scientist affiliated with the Botswana International University of Science and Technology; and
โข Dr. Jessica Villanueva-Peyraube from the School of Environmental Science and Management (SESAM), University of the Philippines Los Baรฑos, known for her expertise in environmental governance.
CVM joined the seminar and exhibit with a strong delegation of faculty members, researchers, and students who presented their ongoing work in animal health, public health, and sustainable veterinary practices.
CVMโs participation featured both oral presentations and poster exhibits. Among the faculty who delivered oral presentations were:
โข Dr. Mila Gracia Villanueva, CVM Dean
โข Dr. Rey Anthony Galo, College Extension Coordinator
โข Ms. Mary Ann Camelotes, College Secretary
Poster presentations from the faculty included the work of:
โข Dr. Dina Ocaรฑa
โข Dr. Jennylyn P. Doncillo
โข Dr. Susan Albario
โข Dr. Allan R. Orejudos
โข Dr. Aurelia Gajutos - showcasing diverse research outputs in veterinary science.
Students from the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program also had a strong presence, actively contributing to both oral and poster sessions. Paull Ressian Naputo, Jehan Jocuya, and Jan Rowell Lagbas presented their research orally, while Ronalie Tan and Ivan Ada participated through poster exhibits.
This well-rounded participation demonstrated CVMโs continued efforts to cultivate academic excellence and research engagement across all levels from faculty and staff to students alike.
Beyond the presentations, iSUSTAIN 2025 also featured Q&A forums and interactive exhibits aimed at empowering young researchers and promoting inclusive, sustainable research practices.
As the two-day event came to a close, the exhibits and presentations left a strong impression on attendees from across the University of Eastern Philippines, its external campuses, and visiting research institutions.
More than just a showcase, the event served as a platform for inspiring and empowering the next generation of researchers.
