The Gombe State Government has reaffirmed its full support for the National Orientation Agency’s nationwide campaign aimed at fostering national cohesion, development, and unity among Nigerians.

The assurance was given by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, during a townhall meeting with key stakeholders on pathway to national cohesion, development and unity campaign with focus on Youth reactiveness organized by NOA held at the Federal Secretariat in Gombe.

Represented by the Commissioner for Special Duties and Regional Integration, Shehu Yerima Abdullahi, the SSG applauded NOA’s initiative and highlighted the state’s commitment to addressing youth unemployment through initiatives like the Muhammadu Buhari Industrial Park in Dadin Kowa.

Taking the campaign message a step further, the State Director of the National Orientation Agency, Mrs. Adaline Waye Patari, delivered a compelling keynote address that spotlighted youth restiveness as a ticking time bomb.

She emphasized that no nation can prosper when its youth are disillusioned, unemployed, or exploited by negative influences.

Mrs. Patari commended the Gombe State Government for proactive measures, including the establishment of GOSTEC, curbing night motorcycle operations, and strengthening support for security agencies, all geared towards curbing insecurity and engaging youth in productive ventures.

Highlighting key federal interventions, Mrs. Patari reeled out a lineup of youth-focused programs, including the NYIF, 3MTT, NELFUND, and N-Power, urging youths in the state to plug into these opportunities.

Also speaking at the meeting, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Colonel Abdullahi Bello (Rtd), said the Inuwa Yahaya-led administration has remained committed to securing lives and property across the state.

He called for public understanding and patience regarding the ongoing motorcycle movement restriction, assuring that security agencies are actively monitoring the situation, and that the policy may be reviewed once stability is fully restored.

The Stakeholders' engagement brought together representatives of security agencies, civil society groups, traditional and religious institutions, women, and youth associations.

A common concern echoed by many participants was the urgent need to create sustainable job opportunities and ensure proper upbringing for children as lasting solutions to ending insecurity in Gombe State and across the country.

The Bauchi State Government has pledged to upgrade its media organisations to meet modern broadcasting standards.

The State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Usman Shehu, disclosed this at the opening of a three-day capacity-building workshop for staff of Bauchi Radio Corporation (BRC) and Bauchi State Television Authority (BATV).

He explained that the training, which targets editors, reporters, producers, and presenters, is designed to strengthen professionalism, uphold ethical practices, and enhance digital skills.

Shehu noted that beyond revitalising BRC and BATV, the government also plans to recruit additional staff to further improve operations.

“No meaningful productivity can be achieved without capacity development,” he said. “This workshop provides a platform for learning, discussion, and forecasting future trends in broadcasting.”

He described the training as a significant milestone in the state’s media development journey and urged participants to remain attentive and fully engaged throughout the sessions.

According to him, “We expect improved performance in areas such as accurate reporting, sound editorial judgment, creative programming, and captivating storytelling. This training is a school in itself, providing in-depth analysis and insights into the evolving media landscape.”

While commending Governor Bala Mohammed for approving what he described as the first-of-its-kind training aimed at uplifting public service broadcasting in the state, Shehu also appreciated the roles played by media unions and regulatory agencies, including the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the Radio, Television and Theatre Workers’ Union (RATTAWU). He urged continued collaboration to ensure sustainable development of the sector.

Also speaking, the Bauchi State Head of Civil Service, Barrister Sani Umar, lauded the ministry of information for organising the programme in line with global best practices.

He encouraged civil servants, particularly those working in the media, to uphold professionalism, discipline, and the civil service code of conduct.

“The training will improve efficiency, responsiveness, and innovation,” Umar said. “Participants will learn the essentials of content development, audience engagement, and modern communication tools to remain competitive in today’s digital media environment.”

In their separate remarks, NUJ State Chairman Umar Saidu and RATTAWU State Chairman Comrade Sirajo Wunti described the training as timely and vital for strengthening the capacity of media practitioners in the state.

27/06/2025

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has flagged off the 2025 wet farming season with the distribution of subsidized fertilizer aimed at boosting food production and supporting thousands of farmers across the state.

Speaking during the launch in Gombe, the Governor announced that his administration has procured 10,000 metric tonnes—equivalent to 200,000 bags—of NPK fertilizer.

According to a statement by the Director-General, Press Affairs, Government House Gombe, Ismaila Uba Misili, each bag, purchased by the government at N44,000, will be sold to farmers at a subsidized price of N27,000.

He explained that the intervention represents more than double the volume distributed during the 2024 farming season and demonstrates the government’s resolve to make agriculture more affordable and productive.

Governor Yahaya noted that over 80 percent of the state’s population depends on farming, and that over the last six years, his administration has consistently subsidized farm inputs despite economic challenges.

He said the initiative is in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which recognizes agriculture as a key driver of inclusive economic development.

The Governor emphasized the importance of timely access to inputs in increasing yields and ensuring food security. He directed the Ministry of Agriculture, security agencies, and civil society organizations to closely monitor sales and distribution to prevent diversion and ensure that the fertilizer reaches genuine farmers across the 114 wards.

Governor Yahaya also highlighted various projects aimed at transforming the state’s agricultural landscape, including partnerships with the Federal Government, the World Bank, and the African Development Bank.

He mentioned ongoing projects such as the Agro-Livestock Development Zone and the Muhammadu Buhari Industrial Park, which houses a new seed-processing facility to boost production.

Governor Yahaya urged farmers to make good use of the fertilizers and to follow weather advisories to protect their crops.

He called for peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders and warned traditional rulers against encroachment on grazing reserves and cattle routes, stressing that anyone found guilty of fueling conflict would face sanctions based on the recommendations of the dispute resolution committee.

In a goodwill message, the Acting State Coordinator of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Absalom Akwaras Lansibol, commended Governor Yahaya’s commitment to agricultural development, describing the initiative as another milestone in securing livelihoods and strengthening food security.

Earlier, the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Barnabas Malle, expressed appreciation to the Governor for sustaining support to farmers, adding that the effort has renewed confidence in the government’s determination to transform the sector.
