Trinidad and Tobago’s election to the United Nations Security Council for the 2027–2028 term is a remarkable achievement and a testament to the strong, decisive, and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, S.C.
Securing the support of 181 out of 191 United Nations Member States — an overwhelming 95% endorsement — demonstrates the high level of confidence and respect that the international community has in Trinidad and Tobago’s leadership and diplomatic direction.
This historic success follows the Prime Minister’s unwavering commitment to confronting serious transnational crimes, including narcotics trafficking, human trafficking, illegal fi****ms trafficking, and organized criminal networks. Her firm and bold stance on national security, combined with her active engagement with world leaders, has strengthened Trinidad and Tobago’s credibility on the global stage.
The international community has recognized the Prime Minister’s principled leadership, her commitment to peace and security, and her determination to address some of the most pressing challenges facing small states and the wider international community.
Under the theme “Building Consensus for the Realization of Sustainable Peace and Security,” Trinidad and Tobago’s campaign focused on:
• Combating the illicit trafficking of small arms and light weapons
• Promoting the protection of women and children in conflict and peacebuilding efforts
• Addressing the implications of Artificial Intelligence on global security
