Grand Kru County — Thousands of residents in Sasstown, Grand Kru County, are decrying what they describe as total abandonment by their elected officials, as they continue to endure severe challenges commuting across the district due to deplorable road conditions.

Residents say the once-busy route between Norkwah and Sasstown has become nearly impassable for almost a year, leaving businesses stranded and cutting off vital movement of goods and services.

Wesly Jugbe, a local businessman, lamented the situation, describing it as “the worst we have ever seen.”

“We’ve never faced such unprecedented problems over the years. The current situation is wicked and unbearable. We want an immediate solution,” he stressed.

Several residents are now appealing for the swift intervention of their lawmaker, Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa, to ensure that the “carnage” they face on the road is addressed urgently.

While many in Sasstown have expressed empathy for the Representative’s challenges in national politics, they say his absence and silence on issues affecting the district are becoming deeply concerning.

“We just want to feel his impact again,” one resident said. “We supported him because we believed he would not forget us, but right now it feels like we are on our own.”

As the rainy season nears its end, citizens are calling for a coordinated effort between their lawmaker and county authorities to restore the road before the next heavy rains make travel completely impossible.

Grand Kru County, Liberia —Questions are mounting over Senator Albert Tugbe Chie’s alleged misuse of public funds, following claims that he diverted thousands of U.S. dollars intended for the construction of schools and clinics in Grand Kru County.

According to whistleblower Ambullah Mamey, Senator Chie, during his tenure as President Pro Tempore of the Liberian Senate, allegedly exploited his influence over NOCAL and NARCOPP to secure large sums of money under the pretense of building development projects in Jloh District.

Mamey, in a recent Facebook post, accused the senator of using development as a cover to defraud the Liberian government and enrich himself at the expense of the people of Grand Kru.

In response, one of Senator Chie’s loyalists in Grand Kru, Joe Sekpeh, claimed that a clinic does exist in Jloh — though he failed to specify its location or current operational status.

However, independent investigations have revealed no evidence of any completed school or clinic project in the district.

Many residents view this as a betrayal of public trust, describing Senator Chie’s alleged actions as a glaring example of corruption and insensitivity to the suffering of the people he was elected to serve.

As the controversy deepens, citizens are calling for an immediate probe into the alleged misuse of funds and demanding transparency on all projects tied to the senator’s name.

Capitol Hill, Monrovia — In response to growing economic hardship across the country, Representative Fonati Koffa has announced plans to introduce a proposal on Thursday calling for the creation of a USD $25 million social safety net aimed at providing direct support to Liberian families struggling to pay school fees and rent.

Rep. Koffa said the measure is intended to provide immediate relief to citizens facing mounting financial pressure as the cost of living continues to rise. “When the town is hard, government must intervene,” Koffa stated. “Even the great United States has food stamps — a reminder that every government has a duty to cushion its people in difficult times.”

The proposed Social Safety Net Fund would be financed through a combination of cost-saving measures within government, including cuts to lawmakers’ benefits, reduced foreign travel, fewer vehicle purchases, and the redirection of funds from the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC). Koffa also suggested that temporary borrowing from NASSCORP could provide additional resources to jumpstart the initiative.

“The people are restless and seeking relief. Our citizens need to see that their leaders are willing to sacrifice and respond to their needs,” Koffa emphasized. “This fund is not a luxury; it’s a necessity in these hard times.”

If passed, the proposed program would mark a major step toward institutionalizing social protection in Liberia, offering targeted financial aid to families most affected by current economic challenges.

For quite some time now, Cllr. Jonathan Fonati Koffa has seen a remarkable rise in his public rating across Monrovia and other parts of Liberia, particularly within the political sphere.
His recent engagements and measured public tone have drawn admiration from thousands of opposition supporters and earned the respect of several political pundits.

It has been nearly two years since his re-election for a second term representing District #2, Grand Kru County. Though initially confronted with significant legislative hurdles during his tenure as Speaker of the House, it’s been roughly seven months since his resignation... a move many analysts described as both strategic and self-preserving.

Now, as he continues to carve an image of a “heroic voice” in the capital, one key question emerges:

Has that growing admiration in Monrovia translated into tangible impact within his home district, especially among the Sasstown people who voted overwhelmingly for him?

What is the current condition of his constituents — economically, socially, and politically?
Are the Sasstown people feeling the benefits of their representative’s national prominence?

BARCLAYVILLE, GRAND KRU COUNTY — The people of Grand Kru County are celebrating a major boost to the county’s education sector, following the inclusion of four public schools in the Legislative Adjustment Allocation for renovation projects.

The funding, made possible through the efforts of Senator Albert T. Chie and Senator Numene T.H. Bartekwa, will benefit Buah Central High School, Barclayville Central High School, P.G. Wollor High School, and Sawken Elementary School.

Making the disclosure in a WhatsApp group chat, the county education officer Mr. Sloh Nagbe indicated that the initiative reflects the senators’ commitment to improving learning conditions across the county.

He stated that with the exception of Buah Central High School which reportedly submitted its Statement of Responsibility later than expected—the checks for the remaining three schools are already available at the Ministry of Finance.

CEO Nagbe assured county and community stakeholders that the funds will be used strictly for their intended purpose—major renovations to enhance the learning environment for students and teachers alike.

“We are indeed grateful to our two senators for their magnanimity and commitment to education in Grand Kru,” one local official remarked. “This intervention will make a real difference in the lives of our students.”

Following the pronouncement, various Grand Kru related chatrooms have been awash with praises from cross sections of citizens on the two senators.

Sasstown — Contrary to widespread speculation surrounding the temporary temporary closure of the Voice of Sasstown, Acting Station Manager Mr. Chris Kieh has clarified that Representative J. Fonati Koffa is not responsible for the station being off air.

Mr. Kieh explained that the station is currently as a result from ongoing engagements with several government institutions, including the Ministry of Information, the Press Union of Liberia, the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA), and the Liberia Business Registry.

These bodies, he said, have requested the station’s legal and operational documents to ensure compliance with national broadcasting regulations.

According to Mr. Kieh, these regulatory requirements have significantly delayed the resumption of the Voice of Sasstown’s broadcast activities.

He further appealed to the public to refrain from blaming Cllr. Koffa, noting that the lawmaker has been the primary sponsor behind the station’s rebuilding, rebranding, and staff welfare.

Mr. Kieh disclosed that Cllr. Koffa is currently making frantic efforts to mobilize the necessary resources to bring the station into full legal compliance with the Government of Liberia.

Several citizens who spoke recently vie telephone on a voice of Grandcess expressed their displeasure over what they termed as their lawmaker alleged abandonment of the station.

Monrovia – Grand Kru County Senator Numene T.H. Bartekwa has received commendations from political observers and citizens for his reconciliatory move following the appointment of a former staunch critic, who once served as Chief of Staff to defeated Senator Dr. Peter S. Coleman, to a prominent position within his office.

The appointment appointment of Mr. Jerkins Pelenah according to sources close to the Senator, is part of efforts to promote unity and collaboration among political actors in the county following years of political rivalry.

Supporters have described the decision as a sign of political maturity and leadership focused on reconciliation and development rather than division.

Observers believe the move could help mend strained relationships among factions within Grand Kru’s political circle and foster a stronger working relationship for the common good of the county.

As 2029 fast approaches, some have also viewed the senator's move as politically strategic as Mr. Pelenah is key voice in Grandcess.

Liberia Court Sentences Man to Life in Prison for Killing Girlfriend After She Rejected Him.

Monrovia – Bill Jallah, who brutally killed his girlfriend, Princess Zoe, after she reportedly rejected his relationship advances, has been sentenced to life imprisonment.

The court, after a thorough hearing, found Jallah guilty of murder. Although he initially confessed to the crime, pleaded guilty, and begged for mercy, the judge ruled that the gravity of the offense warranted the maximum sentence.

Jallah will now spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Lawmakers Face Public Backlash Over Weekend Visit to ArcelorMittal

Several Liberian Senators and Representatives are facing intense public criticism after a weekend visit to ArcelorMittal’s facilities. The lawmakers have been accused of ignoring the plight of ordinary Liberians while cozying up to concession companies.

Grand Kru County Senator Numene Bartekwa, who chairs the Senate Committee on Investment and Concession, led the delegation on what many critics have described as a “hustling spree.”

Senator Bartekwa, a veteran lawmaker, has reportedly made such trips routine, a practice that has drawn growing public outrage.

The controversy escalated when Nimba County Senator Nya Twehyen took to social media to condemn his colleagues, accusing them of “mortgaging the interest of the Liberian people to concession companies” while ordinary citizens continue to suffer.
