I've been busy over the last three days working on one of my annual festival donated Staff and Volunteer tee shirt bombings. This will be the 5th year in a row for Astral Echos Music & Arts Festival (check the details!) down on the edge of Red River Gorge in beautiful central Kentucky, but I'm sadly unable to attend for the first time due to serious caregiving at home.
I started this project with 16 mottled tie dye men's tops in specific sizes, all different. I hand cut stencils for my AE "alien" logo (front) and GROUND CONTROL (rear), masked and styled for four separate multi-color passes (including hot UV colors), with sun drying between each round. When finished, each were signed and numbered, and since the GROUND CONTROL stencil tore when removing the last tee, they are definitely limited edition. I came up with GROUND CONTROL as an appropriate catch all (rather than Crew, Parking, Staff, Security, and Litter Patrol), which also is appropriate for a space-themed event.
I'm glad to contribute to the EDM family down there, pulling from Cincinnati, Lexington, Louisville (and beyond), as it is a very special event that never fails to totally recharge any state of mind. It celebrates the best this world has to offer: great music in a variety of dance genres, two stages, isolation, side quest hikes and dips, and great, open-minded peeps accepting of anyone who are always ready to share time, space, and self-discovery—all in a great natural location under 400 ft. forested hillscapes.
If you've never been to a hip little 3 or 4 day Electronic Dance Music festival with camp-at-car convenience, this is the one to hit. Bring your bestie, too. Thank me later, and snap a pic or shoot a video if you see these tees dancing.
