Earlier this year I had the pleasure of working on the production of US prog metal band Cea Serin’s upcoming third album, ‘The World Outside’. It’s an absolutely immense work with some world class musicianship that strikes the perfect balance between classic and modern melodic prog metal. Over the coming months they’ll be showcasing each track one at a time. This is the first track and it’s being streamed from the ProgSpace right now. Check it out!

“Beyond the Sleepless Aether” by Canadian prog tech death metal band Symbiotic Growth is the first of a string of Twelve Tone Studio productions coming out this Spring. The band has a really fresh sound which (to me) conjures up images of frozen tundras and northern lights. FFO Gojira, Ne Obliviscaris a.o. Currently available from their Bandcamp.

Thanks to everyone who has entrusted me to help bring their music productions to life this year. Twelve Tone Studio is still a young business but 2023 has felt like a year of tangible growth. There has been a diverse mix of projects, but this year seems to have been the year of the collaboration, and it’s been thrilling and a privilege to be able to play with raw recordings by legends from the scene such as Derek Sherinian, Tim “Ripper” Owens, Timo Tolkki, Charlie Griffiths, and many more.

To celebrate, I’ve made a wrap reel featuring snippets from the main projects that saw completion this year. I feel it’s a great selection of talent that spans the spectrum of the rock and metal scene, from acoustic rock ballads to death metal, via plenty of progressive rock and power metal. Something for everyone to enjoy!

If you’re one of the featured artists, it’s been a pleasure to work with you! I wish you every success with your music, and a happy and creative 2024!

This must surely be the last Twelve Tone Studio production to come out in 2023.

“Kayfabe” is a single by the artist .music, and makes me think of what a mid-late 90s period Porcupine Tree might have sounded like if Steven Wilson had decided to replace himself with a (brilliant) female vocalist (a powerhouse called Tammy Whetham). I really enjoyed working on this one.

Thanks to Apple Music’s arcane artwork requirements, this one’s out a little later than scheduled :)

Anyway….”The Enlightenment” is the debut EP of Wheel of Time, a melodic prog/power metal project which takes me back to that golden late 90s/ early 00s period (think Symphony X, Angra, Rhapsody etc). Led by Chinese guitarist Xi Hong, it features a host of international guest artists. This EP is a preview of the full length album, due sometime next year, and features some outrageous performances from the following top musicians:

This new project features two Aussie virtuosi with cool Italian surnames.

But it’s not another collab between Gambale and Donati. Hailing from Perth Rock City, features Joe Sabatino on guitar/ bass and Frank LiCastro on drums. Their first single features none other than on vocals, and it’s a real banger! Musically, it’s like a really proggy Rage Against the Machine with Dimebag Darrell on lead guitar and a hyped up Danny Carey on drums. Highly recommended!
