Coffee, Kilometres & Concerts: Ntungamo Hosts Inaugural Marathon to Honour Rural Women

The hills of Ntungamo are set to echo with the pounding of feet and the rhythm of music this Saturday, 24th May 2025, as the first-ever Coffee Marathon and Concert takes centre stage at the Africa Coffee Park in Rwashamaire town, Western Uganda.

Billed as a unique fusion of sport, celebration, and advocacy, the event blends high-energy races with a star-studded musical lineup—all under the banner of honouring rural women, the often-unsung heroines of Uganda’s coffee story.

With a cash prize pool of Shs116 million, elite and amateur runners alike will tackle distances ranging from 5KM to the full 42KM marathon. The scenic routes will wind through vibrant farming communities and the tranquil shores of Lake Nyabihoko, offering participants a rare glimpse into the heart of Uganda’s coffee-growing countryside.

The theme “Uplifting the Rural Woman” reflects the event’s deeper purpose: to shine a spotlight on the women who plant, nurture, and harvest the beans that fuel one of Uganda’s biggest exports. Organisers hope to transform this weekend into both a tribute and a turning point.

Registration is set at Shs30,000 and includes a marathon kit and access to the highly anticipated Coffee Concert, which kicks off right after the races.

And the stage? It's anything but small.

Music lovers can look forward to an electric mix of Ugandan and East African talent. Bebe Cool leads the lineup, with continental stars Diamond Platnumz and Eddy Kenzo adding fire to the roster. Regional favourites like Ray G, Sister Charity, Beberi, Truth 256 and more are also slated to perform, promising a night of unbridled celebration under the western skies.

Beyond the glitz, the Coffee Marathon and Concert are also about business and vision. The event is the brainchild of Inspire Africa Group, which aims to expand Uganda’s coffee economy from its current USD 1 billion to USD 5 billion within five years. For them, this is more than a show—it’s a strategic movement brewed with ambition.

With music, movement, and meaning all in one cup, Ntungamo’s coffee craze is more than just a weekend escape. It’s a new tradition in the making.

This is the best a Ugandan album has sounded - Juliana speaks on Bebe Cool's upcoming album

Bebe Cool’s highly anticipated album, Break the Chains will drop on streaming platforms on Friday May 30.
The album which has already divided opinion in Uganda for the singer’s change in music direction has spawned two songs that have trended since December, Circumference and Motivation.

With the album release fast approaching, more information about the album and songs is slowly coming to light, in fact at the moment we have also learnt that some people have listened to the album.
On Monday, the singer released a video with Juliana. This was after she listened to the album and had a number of responses.

She notes that it’s an honor the artist invited her for an exclusive listening session because they have grown up together in the industry and seen each other scale different heights.
"What has excited me about this sound and Bebe Cool is his ability to sound different, he’s so versatile, it is something I admire," she says.

Juliana says that where Bebe Cool is musically is something he has earned through his hard work and resilience.
Juliana and Bebe Cool are some of the few artists who have stayed relevant in the industry for at least 25 years and are still a reference of the industry.

Both still command respect among peers and industry stakeholders.She notes that she had actually known about some people getting exclusive listening sessions and was waiting for her turn and was glad the phone call eventually came through.
"When you hear this album, it is a different Bebe Cool, you hear growth, he’s someone who wants to inspire even his fellow artists. This is the first time we are hearing a Ugandan album sounding this good, sounding really international,”she says.

She also says that after listening to the album, her favorite song is called Home. According to an insider, Home is strong on strings thanks to the handy work of guitarist and composer Myko Ouma, the song with pop vibe and dynamic beats, the song is said to be a call back to another Bebe Cool classic, Love You Everyday.

Bebe Cool announced the release of his Break the Chains album at the beginning of the year. The album, whose first single was Circumference is a change from what Bebe Cool has been doing over the years.
The song produced by renowned producer Philkeys, has got Africa talking, and has received mixed reactions since it was released on December 13, 2024.Break the Chains will be available on Spotify, Tidal, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, and Boom Play among others.

Bebe Cool raises bar with Circumference video

Picture this, Bebe Cool walking by himself in a place we can't truly understand. And then a beauty appears out of nowhere and that's when they cue in the music.
Ok, that's not the video of Circumference, it's just something that looks like his mega hit Love You Everyday, but there are parallels here, the 2014 song came out with Bebe Cool out of nowhere and there was a girl.

However, with this video, shot in South Africa, Bebe Cool portrays some sort of a homeless man walking about in a nowhere place during a sunset.He's moving with an empty cart and somehow, comes across a yellow view master, you know those view binoculars with reels?It's when he looks through that the video gets interesting, slides of beautiful women draped in white outfits.
It's a bit symbolistic that the woman in Bebe Cool's lyrics majorly happens to be in his mind. Probably a way of telling viewers how she's really out of this world.

Then Bebe Cool is later teleported to this world with the women and we see out much of this song.

Directed by Garrick Williams, the song offers stunning visuals and cutthroat editing that's not short of the expectations.Williams is an experienced videographer who has worked on the global music scene for more than 25 years.

In Africa, he has worked with many of the best artists the continent offers while with the rest of the world, he's the man responsible for 50 Cent’s iconic bullet shattered glass portrait.
Thus, what he was bringing on the table was experience and simplistic yet big ideas.

Circumference takes place in two places, the nowhere place with electricity towers and the studio set where there are girls dancing. That's basically all and yet, with just two sets, the video managed to grab the attention of a viewer.With tight choreography, and costuming, Bebe Cool's team puts together a memorable video, striking visuals with the right X factor.

There's something about the girls covered in white clothes that stays with the mind - a simple concept yet it's an identity, something most African visuals lack.Much of the video maintains a standard aspect ratio though the rounded edges mimic those of a view master’s, thus, watching the video feels like seeing it through that small binoculars.

The video premiered on MTV Base on Friday morning, yet again reaffirming Bebe Cool’s promise that going forward, he's doing things differently.
Circumference is the lead single off the mega stars highly anticipated album, Break the Chains expected later in 2025. And if his social media promise is anything to go by, Bebe Cool will be staging a concert, his first since 2018 later this year as well.
