Bar Harbor Story Digital newspaper featuring the people, events, & news of Bar Harbor, Maine & the Mount Desert Island region. So, come hang out!

The Bar Harbor Story is an alternative news and features site that focuses on the people, places and events of Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, and Mount Desert Island. Sometimes we even venture to the rest of Hancock County, Maine. Bar Harbor Story is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. It’s just me here, Carrie J

ones, and I’m doing this to make sure local people have free access to information, and I am far from perfect and far from everywhere, but if you have a story idea or event you’d like me to cover, let me know! But if you’re worried about credentials, I’ve reported for the Bar Harbor Times and Ellsworth American and edited the Ellsworth Weekly, winning numerous Maine Press Awards for reporting (features, spot news, arts, sports, columns) and photography. And let me know if there’s something you’d like me to cover!

BAR HARBOR—St.

11/09/2025

Today, we pause to remember September 11, 2001, a day of unimaginable tragedy that changed our nation forever. Nearly 3,000 lives were lost in the attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and aboard Flight 93. Among them were 343 firefighters, 60 police officers, and 8 paramedics who made the ultimate sacrifice while answering the call to serve.

We remember the innocent lives taken, the families forever changed, and the courage shown in the face of such darkness. The events of that day will never be forgotten, and we honor the bravery and sacrifice of all who responded.
