🚨 CHAPEL DAMAGED IN DAVAO ORIENTAL AFTER STRONG QUAKE

LOOK: A chapel in Davao Oriental sustained damage following the strong earthquake that struck the province on January 7. Initial inspections by BFP Caraga Fire Station found visible structural damage at Senior San Lucas Chapel in Sitio Balete, Barangay Santiago, Caraga.

Authorities are continuing assessments of the chapel and nearby structures to determine the extent of damage and ensure public safety.

🚨 NEWS UPDATE | 3 HIGH-VALUE DRUG SUSPECTS ARRESTED IN DAVAO CITY

Police arrested three men identified as High Value Individuals (HVIs) in the illegal drug trade during a buy-bust operation at Purok Bagong Buhay, Barangay Paciano Bangoy, Davao City, at 11:50 p.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2026.

Authorities seized one sachet of suspected shabu sold to a poseur buyer, two additional sachets, and a .45 caliber pistol with ammunition. The suspects—residents of the area—are believed to be linked to ongoing drug distribution activities in the city.

The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) has confiscated several improvised tin-can and plastic cannons, or “lantaka,” from a 16-year-old boy in Barangay Talomo, following community reports earlier this week.

According to DCPO’s report, personnel from Talomo Police Station (PS3) conducted an inspection at Gertrudes Road, Ulas, around 7:10 p.m., after residents reported the minor had discharged the devices last Monday, Dec. 8, near his home close to the Coca-Cola plant.

The boy’s mother voluntarily surrendered three improvised lantaka, which were immediately secured and documented to prevent accidents.
Police remind the public that Davao City Ordinance No. 060-02 (Series of 2002) strictly prohibits the manufacture and use of improvised noise-making devices.

Patrol operations and monitoring have been intensified to ensure community safety this holiday season.

💜 VP SARA: “UTANG NA LOOB NATIN KAY FPRRD ANG BUCANA BRIDGE.” ✊
Vice President Sara Duterte credited former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte for securing the full funding of the newly completed Bucana Bridge in Davao City — a key infrastructure now connecting the southern and northern parts of the city.

In an interview from The Hague, VP Sara emphasized that FPRRD worked tirelessly to find funding for the bridge, noting that neither the Philippine Government nor the Davao City Government spent a single peso for its construction. The entire ₱3.126B project was funded under a grant from the People’s Republic of China.

🤝 VP Sara also thanked China for supporting the project, recalling that when she was mayor, the Coastal Road already had funds — but the Bucana Bridge had none until FPRRD intervened.

👷‍♂️ President Bongbong Marcos recently inspected the bridge and lauded it as part of his administration’s “Build Better More” legacy projects. It will officially open to motorists on December 15.

The Provincial Government of Davao de Oro has formally turned over ₱4.5 million in financial assistance to the Province of Cebu on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, to support communities affected by the recent earthquake.

Cebu Governor Pamela “Pam” Silagan Baricuatro, together with provincial officials, personally received the assistance.

The initiative was endorsed by Governor Raul Mabanglo, chair of the PDRRMC and PPOC, following the October joint council meeting held shortly after the devastating quake. The 10th Sangguniang Panlalawigan approved the budget on October 27.

The financial aid was sourced from the Quick Response Fund (QRF) under Davao de Oro’s Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund—intended to support disaster-stricken provinces in their recovery efforts.

Cebu leaders expressed their gratitude for the timely assistance, which was delivered by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

On November 25, Davao de Oro also extended ₱1.5 million to Davao Oriental, which likewise suffered major damage from the earthquake.

𝗜𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 | Marcos inspects P3.1-B China-Grant Bucana Bridge in Davao City

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., together with Mindanao Development Authority Secretary Leo Magno and DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon, inspected the ongoing works at the Bucana Bridge on Thursday, December 4, 2025.

The 480-meter bridge—funded through a ₱3.126-billion China grant—is expected to significantly decongest traffic once opened, with a projected capacity of 35,000 vehicles daily.

The Bucana Bridge is scheduled to open to motorists on December 15.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is expected to visit Davao City tomorrow to inspect the Bucana Bridge — a trip Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte announced with his trademark dry humor.

Baste quipped, “Pakpak na mo daan, luoy pud tawhana,” a remark that quickly circulated online and hinted at the kind of reception he expects.
Meanwhile, national officials kept things formal. Public Works Senior Undersecretary Emil Sadain said the Bucana Bridge meets strict safety standards, has strong struct

ural integrity, and showcases high-quality workmanship.
The ₱3.1-billion, four-lane extradosed bridge spans 1,340 meters and aims to improve travel between Matina and the Boulevard area, connecting directly to the Davao City Coastal Road.

As Davao prepares for the inspection, Baste’s trademark sarcasm adds its own flavor to an otherwise official visit.
