Five great wetlands that sustain Africa’s wild plains, many under strain. Without these life-giving waters, rivers would dry, forests would decline, and savannas would disappear.

A new wave of conservation heroes is rising... and they’re all women.

Across Africa, women-led ranger and anti-poaching units are stepping up to protect
wildlife, conserve landscapes, and uplift their communities.

It started with South Africa’s pioneering Black Mambas Anti-Poaching Unit, whose bold
example inspired others like Akashinga, Team Lioness, the Segera All-Women Unit,
and Kufadza.

Each team is unique in mission, approach, and story, but all share a powerful
purpose: to defend nature, empower women, and stand at the forefront of
conservation.
