Bringing refreshingly honest talks about what it takes to build these beautiful families though surrogacy and egg donation.

21/10/2025

The new season of The Fertility Café Podcast launches October 28.

Fertility is not just about getting pregnant. It is a reflection of your overall health, your hormones, and how your body is working. It tells a story about your longevity and well-being.

The truth is, fertility care touches everyone in some way. It includes LGBTQ+ families, single parents, trans and nonbinary individuals, and anyone trying to understand their body and their options.

From IVF and acupuncture to embryo testing and tough decisions, the journey is layered and deeply personal. The information can be confusing, and social media is not always the best source of truth.

This season, we are bringing clarity, compassion, and real stories to the table. Because fertility care is not just medical — it is human.

"Your brain's been wired for vigilance for so long, it doesn't just turn off overnight."

After everything it took to get here, you might expect to feel nothing but joy and confidence as a new parent. But instead, you might find yourself wondering:

Am I doing this right?
Why doesn't this feel the way I imagined?
Why am I not bonding right away?

These thoughts don’t make you a bad parent. They make you real. And especially if you didn’t carry the baby yourself, there can be a whole extra layer of emotional complexity that often goes unspoken.

In episode 114 of Fertility Cafe, we’re talking about what happens after the journey "ends" and parenthood begins. Because even without the physical recovery, the emotional toll is still very real.

You are not alone, and you are doing better than you think.

When it comes to fertility, knowledge truly is power.

In episode 113 of Fertility Cafe, we talk about why getting a fertility assessment is one of the smartest steps you can take, even if you’re not actively trying to conceive.

For women, start by talking to your OB-GYN. Let them know you're interested in an evaluation to understand your reproductive health. For men, a semen analysis through your primary care provider is a simple but essential test that can provide clarity.

These assessments aren't just for people struggling to conceive. They’re about being proactive, informed, and prepared for the future.

And no matter what the results show, especially if they’re not what you hoped for, there are so many tools, resources, and next steps available. What matters most is how you respond, and how you advocate for yourself moving forward.

“I’d do anything for him… but I don’t feel that big wave of love people talk about. Is that normal?”

If you’ve ever felt this way as a new parent, you’re not alone. The truth is, that instant, overwhelming connection people often talk about doesn't always happen right away. And that’s completely okay.

In episode 114 of Fertility Cafe, we’re opening up about the quiet, sometimes confusing side of new parenthood. The part where love grows gradually, not always in a dramatic rush.

Most people don’t realize that fertility isn’t just a women’s issue. Men have a biological clock too.

In Episode 113 of Fertility Cafe, we talk with Dr Susanna Park about how age and lifestyle choices can affect s***m health. As men reach their mid-40s and beyond, the chances of chromosome abnormalities in embryos start to rise.

If you know you want to have a family someday but you’re not ready right now, freezing your s***m is a smart move. Once frozen, s***m quality stays the same over time, just like eggs and embryos.

We also cover something important that often gets overlooked. Testosterone use. It might be great for bodybuilding or energy, but it can shut down s***m production. Most men will recover their s***m after stopping it, but that can take months. If you’re thinking about starting testosterone, freeze your s***m first.

Fertility planning is for everyone. And the more you know now, the more options you have later.

"For women, our decline starts in our late 20s. And it's gradual at first, but then it does become steeper." - Dr. Susanna Park

When should you start thinking about fertility testing?

Most people assume fertility is something to consider later in life, when you're ready to have children. But waiting until you're actively trying to conceive might mean discovering potential challenges too late in the game.

In Episode 113 of Fertility Cafe, we talk about why fertility awareness should begin much earlier, even in your 20s.

This isn’t just a women’s issue either. Men may continue to produce s***m, but quality and quantity can decline starting in their 40s, sometimes even earlier. That is why getting a s***m analysis in your 20s or 30s can also be valuable.

Fertility is part of your overall health. Knowing where you stand early gives you time, choices, and clarity. Whether you’re focused on your career, unsure if you want children, or planning for the future, this conversation is one you should not miss.

"It was really important to us that we had a surrogate who had been thoroughly vetted by people who were smarter than we were in that area." - Ashley Hingston

When you're navigating the deeply personal and life-changing journey of surrogacy, experience matters.

These intended parents knew they didn’t have to do it alone and chose to trust professionals who could guide them with compassion, clarity, and care every step of the way.

"It took me a while to really feel connected to my son, which is something that I think a lot of people are ashamed to say or scared to say. And I was too."

In Episode 118 of Fertility Cafe, Ashley Hingston shares the emotional reality that many intended parents experience after surrogacy.

Sometimes, the connection doesn’t happen right away.
Sometimes, it takes time to adjust to the fact that this baby is really yours.
And that is okay.

If you're not feeling what you thought you would feel right away, you are not alone. Bonding takes time. Getting to know your baby is a process, not a single moment.
