Stop telling people to forgive “because it’s family.”
Sometimes the deepest hurt doesn’t come from strangers —
it comes from the ones who were supposed to love us the most.
Family should’ve made you feel safe, not scared.
Seen, not silenced.
Loved, not controlled.
And when that kind of pain keeps repeating,
when the behavior doesn’t change,
when the apology never comes —
forgiveness isn’t healing, it’s pressure.
You’re allowed to take your time.
You’re allowed to set boundaries.
You’re allowed to protect your peace, even from people who share your last name.
Choosing distance isn’t bitterness.
It’s clarity. It’s healing. It’s self-respect.
Family isn’t just about who raised you or who you came from.
It’s about who treats you with care, honesty, and love that doesn’t leave bruises — even the invisible kind.
And sometimes, loving yourself means letting go. Quietly, firmly, and fully.
