The pileated woodpecker (/ˈpaɪliˌeɪtəd wʊdpɛkər, pɪ-/, Dryocopus pileatus) is a large, mostly black woodpecker native to North America. An insectivore, it inhabits deciduous forests in eastern North America, the Great Lakes, the boreal forests of Canada, and parts of the Pacific Coast.
