A bit cold for you, heh? We got a great recommendation for you this fine Wednesday morning. Try the Sunnyside Up Breakfast and Lunch Cafe. It's not only warm inside, but the superb food they serve will keep you warm long after you depart. Service? Efficient but not intrusive. Ambiance? Welcoming as if you are with family. In this morning's Albuquerque Journal (December 7, 2025), Food Section, page F5, we were thrilled to see a multi-page story about Lucky Boy, a true mom-and-pop restaurant featuring burgers and Chinese food. The story highlighted the owners, the food, and the fact that they have been in business for 50 years. Yes, we know Lucky Boy and are pleased to have had this establishment in the inaugural Mañana Café ABQ podcast three years ago. So, in honor of Ronald and Susie Yip, the owners, we join the celebration. Have we got a surprise for you today? Turns out that they snuck in a new restaurant in our little village of Corrales. It's actually been open for a few months, but it is not obvious. No Competition occupies the kitchen spaces at the newly renovated Sandia Bar. To our embarrassment and amazement, we stumbled across it - look for signs to the Sandia Bar at the corner of W. Ella and Corrales Road. Are we glad we did. Order and pick up at the outdoor counter adjacent to the parking lot. No seating in the actual restaurant, but you are more than welcome to go into the Sanda Bar or use one of their numerous outdoor tables. The friendly staff at the bar are used to this arrangement. While you are there, have a drink in the Sandia Bar and look at what they have done to make what was once the local "biker bar" hangout into an upscale drinking emporium. And best of all, this is our new "best in New Mexico" burger joint. Simply the best. We also tried out the Mahi Mahi fish tacos and fish and chips. Good morning on this Thanksgiving Eve (is that a real event?) from Central New Mexico. Our outing today is to one of our favorite long-established local establishments that has at least one item on the menu that is not always seen: Fideo or Mexican Spaghetti. We really like this excellent food, the efficient service, the retro atmosphere, and the central location near Menaul and Candaleria. The carne adovade and red chile were just perfect, but there were eight of us, and we all had something different. A short walk from the Rail Runner Santa Fe Depot, each one of us ordered the pastrami. And it is great. And we're comin' back.
