Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi beats Osimhen and Salah to win African Player of the Year Award for 2025
Moroccan star Achraf Hakimi has been named the 2025
African Footballer of the Year by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The Paris Saint-Germain football star beat Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah and Galatasaray forward Victor Osimhen to become the first defender to win since former
TP Mazembe and Zaire centre-back Bwanga Tshimen in 1973.
The defender is also the first Moroccan to claim Africa’s top player prize since midfielder Mustapha Hadji in 1998.
“It is really a proud moment for me to win this prestigious award,” Hakimi said in his acceptance speech.
“This trophy is not just for me, but all the strong men and women who have dreams of being a footballer in Africa.
“And for those that always believed in me since I was a child, that I would be a professional footballer one day. I would like to thank them all.”
Hakimi capped off a remarkable 2025, winning the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, French Ligue 1, and Coupe de France, while also reaching the final of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup
He also played a starring role as Morocco qualified for the
2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Chaos as security operatives prevent Bauchi governor Bala Mohammed and Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state from accessing PDP headquarters.
A serious fight broke out this morning, November 18 at the PDP headquarters in Abuja among security officers as Governor of Bauchi, Bala Mohammed and Seyi Makinde’s security aides escorted them into the PDP headquarters.
The officers at first denied the governor entry until they were pushed back by security aides and supporters loyal to both governors.
The core reason for the chaos is the ongoing, complex struggle for control of the party.
The PDP has been divided into at least two major factions.
One faction last week held a national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, which elected a new leadership, including Kabiru Turaki as National Chairman. This group now insists on taking control of the secretariat.
The other faction, aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, is challenging the legitimacy of the Ibadan convention. This faction, which includes members like Samuel Anyanwu and led by Abdulrahman Mohammed (as an Acting National Chairman in a parallel structure), has also been attempting to assert control over the party’s offices. The faction also scheduled today to hold its congress claiming they ae the authentic arm of the party.

Marcus’ Premier League Matchweek 12 Predictions

Doku’s curled strike from around 20 yards (in the City vs Liverpool game) was arguably the stand-out finish of Gameweek 11. According to the roundup, Doku wrapped up the win with a “20-yard curled stunner”.

This result qualifies as the upset given the expectations around Newcastle, and the turnaround by Brentford. According to the round-up: “Iago Thiago’s brace fired Brentford to a 3-1 comeback victory against ten-men Newcastle at home.”

The title race is heating up: after Week 11, Arsenal sat top with 26 points, City second with 22.

The gap is narrowing and City have regained form, which means the rest of the season will be less of a foregone conclusion.

For clubs like Liverpool: this week is a warning sign. They can’t afford complacency.

President Tinubu allegedly sent delegation to meet with officials at the UK Ministry of Justice to discuss the case of former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, who has been serving jail term in the United Kingdom since March 2023.
Both the Senate and House of Representatives had rallied round in support of the former Deputy Senate President, who was also a serving Senator at the time of his arrest.
Senator Ekweremadu and his wife Beatrice were arrested and remanded by the London Metropolitan Police on 23rd June 2022. They were charged with offences bordering on trafficking a minor for the purpose of organ harvesting, contrary to the UK’s Modern Slavery Act.
After a six-week trial at the Old Bailey, Ike Ekweremadu was sentenced to nine years and eight months while his wife Beatrice was sentenced to four years and six months.
Nigerian doctor Obinna Obeta, 51 - described by prosecutors as a middleman - was jailed for 10 years, the CPS said. All three were convicted in March of conspiring to arrange the travel of a man in order to harvest his organs.
The case came to light when the man, who had made a living in Lagos selling telephone parts in a market, went to police saying he had been trafficked and someone was trying to harvest his kidney.

The proposed transplant did not go ahead as a consultant at London’s Royal Free Hospital became suspicious about the circumstances surrounding the proposed donor, aged about 21 who cannot be named for legal reasons, who the family had tried to pass off as their daughter’s cousin.
Sonia Ekweremadu, the intended recipient of the organ and who has a serious and deteriorating kidney condition requiring dialysis, was found not guilty.
Beatrice Ekweremadu has now been released from the UK prison and is currently back to Nigeria.
Going by the pronouncement of the UK court, Beatrice did not completed her jail term which was four years and six months.
It is unclear if she was granted pardon in the European country.

Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra
(IPOB), lashed out in court today.
Kanu accused the judge of perverting justice by ignoring the Constitution.
He demanded to see the “written law” behind the court’s actions and called the proceedings “nonsense.”
“Your constitution says you cannot try anybody unless the law is written. Show me the written law,” he demanded.
