GEAR REVIEW: I Spent the Summer with the YOBOgear Turtlebug (with Bridge Hammock Modifications)

This summer I have spent a good deal of time with the YOBO Gear Turtlebug Camper stand, both on the road as a faithful companion for a 3500+ mile road trip as well as a lounger in my back porch. The Turtlebug stand alone, in my opinion, is the best overall hammock stand on the market. However, with the bridge hammock modifications, it goes above and beyond other YOBO stands and other brands on the market.

Setup: this is one of the greatest features of the Turtlebug line of stands, and most impressive feature for me personally. This thing can be up and going with you hanging in the hammock easily in 90 sec and a completed “fortified shelter in under minutes with tarp and anchors. The learning curve is also super forgiving, so most people can reach these speeds within the first 5 setups.

Pack size: With the Turtlebug configured to take a bridge hammock, it loses some pole segments, while adding others. Packed up, the package would still be airplane carryon compatible. Which is great because I travel a lot and this comes with me.

It makes the Bridge Hammock better!: No, it really does. One of the down sides to a bridge hammock is the suspension triangles at each end. The required size requires you to have at least a 12ft tarp or even a 13ft tarp for ample coverage. However, with the modifications on the stand and the way it hangs, an 11ft tarp easily gives you plenty of coverage. The Warbonnet Mini Fly is a pretty minimal tarp, but gives plenty of coverage. However, if you're looking for something luxurious, the Dutchware Bonded Winter Tarp or UGQ Winterdream gives you an outdoor apartment feel.

Stability: This stand is super stable. It can have some horizontal rock, but that is all part of the design and I never once doubted its stability. However, in windy conditions, I would strongly consider staking the stand down…maybe with multiple anchors depending on the magnitude of wind.

Who needs this stand:
The Turtlebug Camper stand is a stand I would seriously recommend to any hammock camper or enthusiast. However, if you are a bridge Hammock user…this is a MUST HAVE. No other stand on the market, by YOBO or others, offers the incredible experience I have had with this stand using a bridge hammock.
Car campers going down the road or long distance travelers flying across the world…the turtlebug will never have you wondering if you will have those perfect trees to hang from.
Anyone needing a place to hang, but might also move from place to place…like a fishing trip.
The Turtle bug offers many different modes that fit what you need. But ONE stand and adjust to meet your needs and change as needed.
Not only is the stand top notch, YOBO Gear is a company I know I can always trust to not only create great gear, but back it up with incredible customer service. YOBO is also a great cottage company that supports the hammock community and has a great presence at hammock hangs around the world.
