This is the opportunity of a lifetime! Not only are we riding the infamous iron ore train through the Sahara Desert, but we're also spending a whole week visiting the best of what the country has to offer.

Mauritania is HUGE, and it's the kind of place where you're better off with locals and as part of a group.

HOW TO STAY SAFE ON THE ROAD - $ EDITION

S**T happens! Here I am, minding my own business, when I realize someone copied my card details and was trying to spend money in Budapest, while I was in Baghdad.

#1. Get a card that has live notifications. This is how I was able to realize right away what was going on. The banks with the best app interface, in my opinion, are digital banks. I can block my cards and my daily usage MYSELF with a tap on my phone without calling my bank.

#2 Get travel insurance that covers theft. I have yet to use this but we're all human and no matter how cautious you are things can happen.

#3 Keep your cards/money separate. One card gets lost/stolen/stops working, I still have backups on me. You don't and shouldn't want to rely on ONE payment method.

CHINESE NEW YEAR FUN FACTS! 🀄

- It's celebrated on the Lunar Calendar, which means that every year it's celebrated on a different date!

- The fireworks and firecrackers are not just for fun - they're also for scaring evil spirits and bringing good fortune! 🎆

- If you're a child or an adult and unmarried, you'll get a 红包 Hongbao, a little red envelope with money in it for good luck and prosperity!

- Each Chinese New Year is tied to a zodiac animal. There are 12 of them. This year is the year of the snake!

WHAT TO WEAR IN IRAQ AS A FEMALE TOURIST

Lose-fitting airy clothes are the way to go! Loose-fitting, airy clothes are the way to go when visiting Iraq! 🌿✨ Think lightweight pants, and breathable long-sleeved tops to stay comfortable and respectful. Or you can wear a t-shirt and a long open shirt that will cover your hips/bum. If it's winter, bring a jacket along.

If you’re visiting religious sites, pack a scarf to cover your hair - it's also handy for protecting against the sun! This is also useful while crossing checkpoints. Avoid tight or revealing outfits to respect local customs, and trust me, your body will thank you for the comfort too.

For religious sites, either bring your own abaya and hijab, they'll lend you one, or buy one on the street. There are street vendors in the major religious sites and they sell these for a few dollars. The material isn't great but it'll work for what's needed.

WHAT FLYING 1st CLASS IS LIKE - PART 1

I'm REALLY good at looking for flights (shoutout to that $5 USD flight I got from Europe to the Middle East!) but I had never been able to fly first class before. And I don't shy away from flying budget airlines. As long as I get from point A-B.

But this was a whole different experience! I felt a little out of place: the private check-in and security, feeling underdressed in the best lounge in the world, and of course, carrying my backpack along.

The experience was worth it! This flight was worth almost $6000 USD. Stay tuned for part 2 where I show you how much I actually paid and HOW.

Imagine ghost towns scattered all over a country... I recently spent a month in Namibia, southern Africa, and I went there on my own.

I met a group of strangers online and I was able to join them to keep costs down. This was by far one of the most striking places we visited... Kolmanskop, and the history was equally as fascinating.

How many rainbows can you spot?

[Save for your next Zambia visit!]

This is what Victoria Falls, one of the seven natural world wonders, looks like from the sky.

Yes, you can see it from the ground. But I highly recommend taking the micro flight instead! It's much smoother than a helicopter and more unique! This was all booked through . I highly suggest you check out their activities in the area. They have lots to offer!

Some quick tips:

🛩️ There are two types of aircraft, and availability might change. One is more open than the other, which means that you won't be able to use your phone or camera for filming.

🛩️ For best lighting and less winds, book the early morning slot.

🛩️ Ask the pilot to point out the wildlife! It's their job and they are better at spotting it than we are. We saw some rhinos and zebras!

🛩️ Sit back and relax! Even as someone who's scared of heights, I was able to be in the moment and not let fear get the best of me.

🛩️ This activity is only available on the Zambian side of Victoria Falls, so plan accordingly!
