The Zimbabwe Teachers’ Association (Zimta) yesterday hit back at its counterparts who last week accused it of selling out when it held secret meetings with President Emmerson Mnangagwa where they allegedly agreed on a minimum wage of US$320, down from US$520. In a statement yesterday, Zimta dismissed the allegations levelled against it by its sister unions such as the Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) and the Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (Artuz), who described it as a union that failed to represent the teachers’ grievances during negotiations. Two Murehwa families reportedly ate human flesh after buying ‘meat’ from Tafadzwa Shamba, who had earlier murdered seven-year-old Tapiwa Makore in September. Shamba and the deceased’s uncle Tapiwa Makore Sr allegedly murdered the boy and harvested his body parts for ritual purposes. Zesa tariffs rose another 50 per cent yesterday, the third rise in less than six weeks, with households now needing $668,86 to buy the cross-subsidised basic 200 units. According to Zesa advertisements flighted on the 1st of November, the first 50 units a month are now $1,67 each. The next 150 units are $3,65 each. The next 100 units are $9,92 each and everything over 300 units a month is $15,57 a unit. [ 314 more words ]

Zimbabwe has taken delivery of 50 more buses from China to boost the Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (Zupco) fleet. In the last 12 months, Government imported over 300 buses from China and Belarus which has helped to restore sanity in the public transport sector. This emerged when Paul Mutero (27) was convicted by Masvingo magistrate Ms Conceptor Ngwerume of assault last week. The chief operations officer of the regulator that supervises higher education, the Zimbabwe Council of Higher Education (Zimche), had just one O Level pass although reportedly produced fake certificates saying she had five O Levels plus tertiary qualifications.
