The Executive Chairman of Ijebu North Local Government, Hon 'Bolaji Odusanya has directed Sachet and bottled water manufacturers in the Local Government and its environs to cooperate with Local Government in her bid to curb the spread of Cholera outbreak in Ijebu North.

The local government boss gave the directive at a meeting with the association of sachet and bottled water manufacturers at the Local Government Secretariat today, Friday 31st of October, 2025.

We have recorded many cases of Cholera in the Local Government, and these are due to some contaminated water sold in several communities among others . This has prompted this latest development.

Sachet and bottled water would now undergo water testing, and necessary Clearance before they could sell within the Local Government.

We have activated all security formations in Ijebu North to work with the Local Government task force in effecting this directive. Any sachet and bottled water manufacturers without Ijebu North Local Government satisfactory Clearance would be heavily Sanctioned effectively from November 6th, 2025. .

We urged the residents of Ijebu North to be wary of buying and drinking contaminated and unhygienic water so as to curb the spread of Cholera and related water-borne diseases

Efforts are intensified with public enlightenment and awareness within the Local Government, especially in the indigenous communities and transient residents

However all Sachets and Bottled Water Companies trading within the Local Government are by this Publication notified again.

Monitoring and enforcement agents are already in place and we are hopeful that the concerned business entities would work in harmony with the Council Authority to protect the environment and save lives, in line with our social contract with the residents of the Ijebu North Local Government.

PRESS RELEASE

POPULATION CENSUS: FEDERAL COMMISSIONER OF THE NATIONAL POPULATION COMMISSION VISITS IJEBU NORTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT

The Executive Chairman of Ijebu North Local Government, Hon. Dr. Bolaji Odusanya has reiterated the support of his administration towards the forthcoming national population census to be conducted by the National Population Commission while playing host to the federal commissioner, Hon. Dr. Fasuwa Abayomi Johnson and his entourage at the local government secretariat in Ijebu Igbo.

In his welcome remark, the Chairman appreciated the commission for deeming it fit to visit the local Government and acknowledged the efforts of the commission for working towards the successfull conduct of the forthcoming population census.

While intimating the gathering on the purpose of the visit, the State Director of NPC, Dr. Adenuga Olayinka laid emphasis on the registration of births and deaths within the local government with the commission.

He explained that the birth certificate serves as a form of identification for the bearer, recognizing each individual as an entity and citizen of a country. Also serves as a means of eligibility and qualification. The birth certificate is for individuals btw age of 0 and 17 when registering while an attestation is issued to age 18 and above.

He further noted that the birth certificate is internationally recognized and is used in estimating the strength of the population. Also death certificates should be obtained for individuals who die at other places apart from the hospital. It assists the next of kin to claim assets/properties/ entitlements of the deceased. He stated that all hands should be on deck to aggressively sentisize the public on the advantages of documentation of births prior to the census proper as one of the indices to development of a community.

The Federal commissioner, while speaking more on the benefits of registration of births, laid emphasis on the need to register with and through the right quarters to ensure authenticity and proper documentation of the birth. He noted that there are some unscrupulous elements out there, parading who display themselves around as officials or agents of the commission.

He commended Hon. Odusanya for his hardwork and also as one of the most dedicated and detailed Chairmen in Ogun State. He advised not to relent in his efforts to further bring development the local government.

The NPC Scribe further stated that the issue on the registration of births and deaths must be taken seriously, while efforts must be intensified on the sensitization of the people of the LG on the benefits to the growth and development as the federal allocation is calculated based on the population which may cause a deficit or shortchange on what the local government deserve from the federal allocation and reserve. The agency conducts population census which in it's capacity dictates the quota of governmental projects and development allotted from the federal government reserve which it assists in the development of facilities and determines benefits the federal government shares across the country as the growth rate is used to project the needs and aspiration of the people. He stressed that the attitude of the southerners towards certain pressing issues has affected the region negatively and everyone must work hand in hand to correct these abnormalities.

He stated that the populace is a resource for the development community and enhances the influx of people and investors which will enable more development to the community and it's people. He however noted that a committee will be constituted at the local government level to oversee the process and will also serve as a ready made platform for the forthcoming population census.

Hon. Bolaji applaused the NPC in ensuring that a proper and smooth process for the population census is on board and promised the support of the local government in all capacity.

The Medical officer, Dr. Mrs Motunrayo Ayanlaja and the Director of Water supply and environmental sanitation, Sanitarian Adeola Adenike Elizabeth of the local government attested to the efforts made by departments in sentisizing mothers on the importance of registering the birth of their children during ante natal, immunization schedule sessions and during sanitation inspection.

On the entourage were also, Mr Awogbade Kayode, Mr Musibau Adesina ,Head of units, Admin and Vital registration respectfully, Alh. Mrs Alani Muibat, Controller, Ijebu North amongst others.

The event was witnessed by the members of the Executive and Management of the local Government.
