Open Letter to the Governor, Embu County.
5th July 2025.
Dear Hon. Cecily Mbarire, EGH
It has been a few weeks since my last letter, and your star has shone ever so brightly in that time. Allow me to pass my belated congratulatory regards to you for having been feted by Independent Kenya Women Awards (IKWA June 2025) as Kenya's Best Performing Woman Governor and as an Outstanding Champion in Women & Youth Empowerment; and for also being honored by Mizani Africa as 2025โs 4th Best Performing Governor. Being recognized for exemplary performance among your 47 peers is a good indicator that you are operating above the pack and this, Iโm sure, adds to the hundreds if not thousands of the accolades in your collection so far.
Your Excellency, as the people of this great county of Embu, we are only as strong as you are strong. As the top leader in this county and our overall elected representative, any disrespect to you is disrespect to us all. Your presser after the demos was well appreciated because for all our sakes you stood firm against a bully, something that many probably didnโt expect. Many bullies are often narcissists and thrive in deception, selfishness, emotional immaturity and devaluing others as way to boost their own self-esteem & maintain a sense of superiority; calling them out destabilizes them greatly and that day, you sent a powerful warning shot with the skill of a true warrior(clearly rekindling the spirit of Embuโs valiant female warrior, Cieruma). Most importantly, your message was articulated meticulously.
I am encouraged by what you said, that ambition is good, very good indeed as it powers growth. And yes, itโs unfortunate that some people are driven by blind ambition leading them to disregard the collective needs of the 600,000+ people of Embu. Few have the ability, the strength, the humility, the heart and quite frankly the energy to carry the dreams and aspirations of everyone else at least alongside if not above, their own. Thank you Your Excellency for your big heart that enables you to carry all of ours and still move with the grace of a swan gliding on water. May the good Lord continue blessing you and adding to your resilience, the love you have for your people, wisdom, courage, passion, empathy and above all your ability to envision and execute great things for your motherland.
Your Excellency, it is often said that โanyone with something worth taking, eventually someone will try to take itโ; and you, my dear Mwarwa Njagi(if I may be so bold), you have tons. You are a coveted national figure, a household name who manages to captivate the entire nationโs attention for weeks with just a few minutes of speech, drowning out the peculiar tantrums thrown all too often by some who hope to at least get attention past their usual 15 mins. Their desperation pushes them to invoke your name every chance they get to at least court relevance by association. Your ability to ignore this noise and focus on your mandate is inspirational; especially during these times when many leaders would rather engage in online banters or complain about everything rather than actually doing anything about it.
I humbly take note that only a few maybe as bold to express their thoughts but I know I speak for many. I would have loved to make it shorter but there is a lot to say; allow me to end here, until next time.
Yours Sincerely,
