Only one of Rochester New Yorks three Titanic passengers made it home alive.
19-year-old Lillian Bentham survived the sinking, witnessed the Titanic disappear beneath the ocean, and carried that story for the rest of her life.

She had an unmarked grave until 2015 when one was donated by Brigden Memorials (part of Woodside Granite) in Albion, NY.

Rain couldn’t stop us this Memorial Day Weekend. The Fairport, NY VFW (VFW Post 8495) coordinated an incredible cemetery clean-up and repair effort that brought together 100+ volunteers to honor our veterans and the general community the best way!

In just one day, we cleaned over 400 headstones, repaired 3 damaged stones, used 32 gallons of D/2, and brought out two local news stations (13 WHAM ABC & WHEC TV) so we can continue to keep history alive for generations to come.

Also had the pleasure of working with other cleaners and repairers in Rochester; thatgraveyardgal, Gone Graving, and Kristen!

Days like this remind me why this work matters so much. Huge thank you to every single person who showed up in the rain to make a difference. ❤️

Being a millwright in the 17th and 18th century meant you were an extremely skilled craftsman and acted as both an engineer and builder. I wonder what type of craftsman today would be equivalent to this skillset.🤔
