Let’s talk Bowman Gray for a second.

Listen, I hear the people that want to move The Clash back to Daytona. I understand it. I even agree with some of the points they make. Was the racing great? No. But was it awful? Also, no.

But I want to be clear…

The Clash should be put on tour to help renovate and save short tracks around the country. Bowman Gray is, in my opinion, a gold standard for short track racing. Now, before you come at me and say it’s not real racing, I would just like to say that you’re not wrong to feel that way. I’m not a believer in destroying race cars for no reason. I’m not a believer in waiting on guys to ruin their chances at winning. But I am a believer that short track racing is 50% racing and 50% entertainment. Just like any other sport.

50% of the people watched the Super Bowl last night for the game. The other 50% for the commercials and halftime show (whichever one you decided to watch. I don’t care). 50% of the people watch hockey for the game, the other 50% for the fights. Baseball, 50% for the game and 50% for home runs because they are cool.

THAT is what NASCAR should be trying to invest in and save. The culture of short track racing. And I believe you do that by touring The Clash. Pick one short track every year. I don’t care where it is. Invest in it, showcase it, and leave it in a better spot to succeed.

I also don’t care when you run it. I mean, MLB has their allstar break in the dead middle of the season. Give me a good Wednesday night show down in July in the middle of nowhere and I’ll watch it.
