Candelaria, Zambales - University President Dr. Roy N. Villalobos delivered his fourth State of the PRMSU Address (SOPA) on February 3, 2025, via Zoom, highlighting the accomplishments of fiscal year 2024.

President Villalobos, known as PRNV, expressed gratitude for the continued support and trust placed in his leadership. He emphasized that the university's successes were a collective effort, highlighting the dedication of faculty, staff, students, and partners. "These achievements were not the result of a single leader but of a shared vision realized through the dedication of our faculty, hard work of our administrative staff, the determination of our students, and the support of our partners and stakeholders," he stated.

"I am honored by the trust you have placed in me. I accept this responsibility with the same passion and dedication that I have carried over the past four years," PRNV said as the campus celebrates his second term that will last until February 3, 2029; this was after the president completed his first term from February 3, 2021 to February 2, 2025.

The president reported that, as of December 2024 it was based on PREX key performance indicators and aligned with the GAA 2024, PRMSU exceeded its targets, achieving a 114.14% overall accomplishment rate. This success is reflected across all programs: Higher Education (131.53%), Advanced Education (106.74%), Research (106.31%), and Technical Advisory Extension (113.33%).

The esteemed University President reported a total of 100-item accomplishments for FY 2024 which is significantly higher compared to last year on which the university had 48 number of salient achievements.

Dr. Roy N. Villalobos stated that we must strive for new heights in academic excellence, build a future of inclusivity, collaboration, and integrity. This is so that every student who would walk to our doors finds not just knowledge but purpose and inspiration.

He stated that our commitment to academic excellence needs a future defined by inclusivity, collaboration, and integrity. This ensures that all students find not only knowledge but also purpose and inspiration within our institution. The president thanked all the people behind the success of the universityโ€” the PRMSU family and dear stakeholders.

"Together, we will continue building a university that we can all be proud of, one that stands as a pillar of knowledge, service, and leadership for generations to come," PRNV concluded.

In a significant effort to promote environmental awareness and sustainable fisheries practices, the Aquaphilic Society of PRMSU Candelaria is spearheading a coastal cleanup drive in Barangay Sinabacan, Candelaria. This initiative, held in collaboration with the entire community of BS Fisheries students, is part of the annual celebration of Fisheries Conservation Week 2024.

Fisheries Conservation Week, typically celebrated every September, aligns with the Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANA Mo). Despite the delay caused by prior academic and extracurricular commitments, PRMSU Candelaria's community came together to mark this important event. The late celebration did not dampen the enthusiasm of participants, highlighting their commitment to conservation and environmental stewardship.

Led by the Aquaphilic Society's advisers, Ms. Kris A. Eben and Mr. Sherwin A. Domulot, alongside dedicated officers, various activities were prepared to mark this yearโ€™s FishCon 2024. One of the key highlights of the event is the coastal cleanup in Sinabacan, where volunteers are actively removing waste and debris from the shoreline. This initiative aims to not only preserve marine biodiversity but also raise awareness about the significance of sustainable practices in fisheries.

As the Fisheries Conservation Week continues, the coastal cleanup serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of collective community action in maintaining the health of our oceans and coasts.

The event underscores the shared responsibility in safeguarding coastal resources and ensuring the sustainability of fisheries for future generations.
