Though only 30 of the most popular TV shows with LGBT characters were recorded, it is clear that these TV shows follow the urban gay narrative for the most part -- the cities with the most number of shows set there are Los Angeles with six shows and New York City with five shows. It is also notable that there is a big gap in middle, rural America, with the majority of the TV shows along the West coast, the Northeast, and the Midwest. When it comes to representation of LGBT stories in popular media, it should also be important to include these stories in the middle and Southern part of America so that the urban gay narrative is not perpetuated, as well as showing that q***r identity and rural life is in fact real and compatible.
