END OF AN ERA AS BISHOP OKOBO GOES HOME

Today, we bid farewell to our revered father in the Lord, Bishop Francis Okobo, the first Bishop of Nsukka Catholic Diocese, as his body is laid to rest at St. Teresa’s Catholic Cathedral, Nsukka.

I am consoled by the fact that His Lordship lived to see the fulfilment of many of the initiatives and projects he championed - chief among them, the successful completion of the cathedral during his lifetime. Bishop Okobo was a visionary shepherd who believed deeply in the Nsukka cause. Through the pulpit and beyond, he laboured tirelessly to ensure that the lives of our people were lived with dignity and meaning.

Having had the privilege of working closely with him on a number of progressive projects for the good of our people, I can testify that Bishop Okobo was not only a true man of God but also one who practised what he preached. His exemplary Christian life and unyielding sense of justice remain a lasting legacy.

As we commit his soul to the Lord, I pray for his eternal repose. May Bishop Okobo continue his service to our people through his heavenly intercessions, especially as we persevere in our struggle for the emancipation and upliftment of our people.

Powering Communities: Engr. Jude Asogwa Chinedu-KSJI Powers Ezeani Community with 500KVA Energy Transformer.

Engr. Jude Chinedu Asogwa, KSJI, the chairman of Nsukka local government area, yesterday, September 18th, 2025, handed over a brand new 500KVA energy transformer to Ezeani Autonomous Community in Nsukka local government. To receive the transformer for his community was the Igwe, Ezeani 1 of Ezeani Kingdom, HRH Tony Ndidiamaka Ezenma, who was accompanied by his Traditional Prime Minister, Chief Benson Ugwoke, the town's President-General, Mr. Charles Ugwu, members of the Igwe's cabinet, the community security, and other members of the community.

Speaking at the event, the Igwe, HRH Tony Ndidiamaka Ezenma, Ezeani 1 of Ezeani Kingdom, who was overjoyed, specially thanked Engr. Jude Asogwa for fulfilling the promise he made to the community. The chairman had earlier promised to assess the needs of every community and solve at least one of these needs. Immediately after being sworn in, the council chairman inaugurated the Community Project Committee that traversed the 52 communities of the council area to collate their project needs for the council authority. These collated needs of these communities culminated into the “Project Bible,” a document containing the project needs of these 52 communities. Joy was evident among the men and women of Eziani community as one of their most persistent needs had been solved by Engr. Jude Asogwa.

Speaking at the event, Engr. Jude Asogwa explained that his administration resolved to share the 500KVA transformers with the communities because his administration took into consideration the future increase or expansion in energy needs in these communities as the community grows. This idea is to ensure that these energy transformers remain operational over time and do not become obsolete within a short period due to an increase in energy needs. Beyond Traffic, Deepening Development and Connecting Communities: Engr. Jude Asogwa's 4.2km Amaji Road Flag-Off Links Community, Enthrones Development.

Engr. Jude Asogwa Flags Off 4.2km Amaji Uwelu-Amaji Uwani-Admabia-Umueze-Urban Girls Road in Grand Style.

The chairman of Nsukka local government area, Engr. Jude Chinedu Asogwa, KSJI, has officially flagged off the construction of the 4.2km Amaji Uwelu-Amaji Uwani-Admabia-Umueze-Urban Girls road. The road project, which is another flagship project of his administration, is a ring road that will help provide easy access for the movement of people, especially students, from Umakashi community to Isiakpu community where the Nkpunano Smart Green School Project is located. This road construction will also help relieve the traffic at the always-busy Obechara Junction, giving motorists the option of navigating through this road in case of a traffic gridlock.

Welcoming and thanking the council chairman for the project in his ward, the honorable councilor representing Nkpunano ward, Hon. Dickson Tochukwu Ezeah, thanked the chairman for his efforts in delivering the project in his ward. He stated that this project, which is the first of its kind, will stand as a testament to his goodwill to the people of the ward. Also speaking at the event was Engr. Nnamdi of OVS Constructions, who explained the technical details of the road to be constructed and pleaded with the people whose structures were affected in the construction to understand with the council authority and also know that development comes with a price.
Other dignitaries like Chief Sam Asadu, Nsukka Town Youths Association, Chief Oyema Idoko, Chief Fabian Onah (Okanume), Chief Chris Ezema, etc., spoke at the event and thanked His Excellency, Barr. Dr. Peter Ndubisi Mbah for taking the lead in development, which the council chairman is following.
