Happy International Day of Forests!
Today is March 21, and we honour the International Day of Forests. This day reminds us of the importance of conserving and preserving our natural forests, given their vital role in supporting life. Recent concerted efforts by authorities aimed at clamping down the rampant felling of Indigenous trees have been noted. Zimbabwe reportedly loses approximately 300,000 hectares of natural forests annually due to various causes, including agricultural expansion, the demand for fuelwood, urban development, mining activities, climate change, wildfires, to***co curing, population growth, and poverty. While the recent initiative is a welcome move, further action (I invite you to suggest additional steps that can be taken) is needed from all stakeholders involved in forest conservation in Zimbabwe and the general public.
