Birmingham Police Chief Michael Pickett expressed his sorrow over the loss, saying, "One of our most precious souls that God blessed with a long life was killed by a stray bullet while sitting on her porch with her daughter. When is enough enough?"

I really don’t know where to start with this post. On Tuesday, I met with Mayor Traffanstedt, and incoming mayor, Chandler. I advised them, I would be resigning as chief of police.

While this has not been an easy decision for me to make, it is what I must do for my family, and the City of Collinsville. My girls deserve the best of their father, and for me to be more present. The city deserves a chief that can be 100% all the time.

The City of Collinsville has been great to me over the past 3 years, and I am beyond grateful for the friendships I have made during my tenure here. There’s nothing personal for the reason of my resignation. The mayor, city council members, clerks, street department, fire department, and you all as citizens have became like family to me.

I will still be around, as I have accepted a job at the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, where I started my career.

I love, and appreciate you all, and as always, call me if you need me.
