Pakistan's "13th Humiliation": Zero Buyers for JF-17 Fighter Jets
Pakistan’s aggressive diplomatic push to export its Chinese-designed JF-17 Thunder fighter jets has resulted in failure, with reports terming it a massive embarrassment. Despite holding talks with 13 different countries—including Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Morocco, Sudan, and Bangladesh—Islamabad has failed to secure a single signed contract.
According to the report, there are three primary reasons behind this "zero deal" outcome:
* Over-Hyping Capabilities: Pakistan has been marketing the JF-17 as a superior, low-cost alternative ($30-40 million) to advanced Western aircraft like the Rafale or F-35. However, potential buyers remain skeptical of these exaggerated claims.
* Lack of Trust: Despite the low price tag, international buyers have hesitated to commit, casting doubt on the aircraft's reliability and performance compared to established competitors.
* Debt-for-Jets Offers: There is speculation that Pakistan attempted to offer these aircraft to creditor nations in lieu of debt repayments, a strategy that has found no takers.
While Pakistan's Minister for Defence Production, Raza Hayat Harraj, blames "geopolitical pressure" for the lack of sales, the inability to convert interest into actual orders highlights a severe lack of confidence in the aircraft globally.
