A TALE OF TWO COMPENTS ON ONE LITTLE FULANI GIRL (TRAFFICKED AND FORCED MARRIAGE)
This morning, while on a journey from Bolga towards Zebilla, a police officer at one of the check points approached me and asked if I could speak Wale. I replied that I could only speak the basics and I was asked to alight from the vehicle and offer an assistance.
I spotted a young girl seated under a tree with the police team along with an elderly man probably in his late fifties, both were said to be Fulanis.
I was told to ask the girl where they were coming from and where they were heading to. The little girl narrated to me that, she is from a village in a the Upper West Region called Wangu or so and that the man came to forcefully traffic her from her family and he is taking her to Burkina Faso to marry her. She narrated that, she bitterly objected it but she was subjected to beatings.
While I was engaging her, the police ask me to ask her if she would eat food. She replied yes and the police used their money and picked a motorbike to go and buy her the food. The girl then indicated she was subjected to severe brutality by this man along the way.
Apparently, the elderly man jump in speaking moore "she's lying we're going to Awidnaaba in Zebilla not Burkina, and I am not going to marry her". The girl screamed in Wale "These are my marriage items in the sack, open and see, the "leefe" is there. He's going to marry me. She then admitted that she is only twelve years. Physically her structure indicated as there was no indication of having breast. I got marveled by the story.
At that juncture, I had nothing to say than to applaud the police for their brilliance. How did they discover this rot on a busy highway like that?. Infact this is one of the days where I really felt proud of the Ghana Police Service.
I think these police officers also deserve to be appreciated.
