Here are at The Curvy Collective, we aim to make it a safe space when expressing ourselves through art and loving all our curves. 🥰

“I’ll go to the beach when I’m thin enough”.
“I’ll be intimate with my partner when I’m thinner”.
“I’ll start dating when I lose weight”.
“I’ll book that holiday when I’m smaller”.
“I’ll buy the dress when I’m thinner”.

Far too often, i've heard someone say the above statements, and truthfully I have as well. I would shed a tear seeing friends consume meals together as I cancelled yet another dinner date with my friend as I was desperately trying to achieve an unattainable beauty standard. I would often pretend I was too tired to be s*xually intimate with my partner when in reality, I was waiting till I was thinner. I avoided beach trips with friends and pulled out of tropical holiday as I was conditioned to believe I needed to be smaller. I was constantly waiting to start enjoying my life. But no more.

For far too long we have idolised the thin ideal. We have damaged our mental health by judging our bodies for not being thin or thin enough. We have let the size of our clothes, the number on the scales and the inches on a measuring tape dictate how we would feel about ourselves that day. I had an unhealthy obsession with being thin. I let the size of my body determine my worth and happiness. I thought I needed to be thin to be accepted, but little did I know that losing weight didn’t equal happiness, love, success, confidence or joy.

So please remember that you are enough just as you are! Stop romanticising thinness. Stop putting off buying that dress, dating, wearing the bikini, going to the event, being intimate or enjoying a holiday until you are ‘thin enough’. Your body is phenomenal. Don’t spend another second at war with yourself. You have one life. Don’t waste it watching others enjoy theirs. It will break you. You deserve better. I love you.'
