Do you like goat milk soaps? We ordered these a while back and just ordered a few more bars. I really like the plain version but also add a few of the scented versions too. Feels nice on the skin and helps a family too! Give them a try, they are great
My little Amish mama called me this morning from her phone booth. "Suzie, you haven't been selling many soaps. Is there something wrong with them?"
Oh my heart..
I explained to her that originally I wrote a story about the soaps, and the Amish woman who made them and that story went viral and that's why we sold so many soaps.
But she asked me to remove the story, and of course I did!
And I had to find a new soap maker..
but we haven't sold many soaps..not like we did after telling Clara's story.
Sometimes I feel stuck between a rock and a hard place.
I can only take certain photos..
I try not to put their real names out there ..
I'm very, very careful and respectful..
but I want to sell their products for them... It really does help them and even is life changing
So I ask God to help me.
"Lord figure out a way... for me to help..and keep it respectful to them..their culture..their rules.
My business is so much more than a business to me...Yes it is a business..but it's a business with a mission.
The Amish put sunshine boxes in their stores... to help raise money.
I sell their products for them online.
God has given me this opportunity...
So...Lord how can I help Polly sell her goat milk soaps?
and then God gives me an idea..
Amish women.
They work so hard.
I mean...really hard. They live wihout electricity. They often live in the woods, sort of secluded.. (my soapmaker does) kind of cut off from the world.
They raise their children...they make all their clothes with a foot powered sewing machine.. they mend their clothes when the little boys wear holes in their pants..
They heat the water on the stove to bathe in a bathtub...no hot showers.
They cook on a wood stove..they gather the wood before they can cook.
They do all the gardening..and then they can the fruits and vegetables they grow and the meat they raise, the men hunt for, and butcher.
I've been involved in many Amish women's lives..and I've watched them work and live.
And it would be very, very rare to hear them complain..
They quilt, they sew, they bake, they garden, they can, they make soap... anything they can do from home ,to bring in an extra income, but still be able to take care of their homes and families.
They work so hard.
This goat milk soap we sell was most likely made in a big kettle over an open fire. Scents and colors added, Stirred with a big wooden spatula and then carefully poured into her molds.
She has to have time to let it dry...and then she puts it into large ziplock bags.
She goes to her phone booth, to call me and let me know the soaps are ready.
I pick them up, bring them home, we now shrink wrap them, print out the ingredients, scents, and label them.
And we have them all on our shelf ready to send out!
So I have a favor to ask you... Sometimes.. I write a story and it will go viral.. and we're able to really do something big for someone in need.
So many of you have bought soaps in the past...and we thank you SO much!

I'd love to call my Amish mama up and tell her the exciting news!
She'd love to fire her kettle up and have to make more soap!
