Happy Saturday everyone!

A new episode of Wiser Living is here. This fall and winter, I’ll be doing episodes and interviews on how to experience everyday joy by mastering our mind and emotions starting with one of the wisest people I’ve ever met: philosopher and author William Irvine.

Today’s episode takes a look at the human problem of desires and how it never ends. We’re always onto the next best thing once we get the very thing that we worked so hard for. This can be a huge roadblock to our happiness and it’s why many people are never satisfied with their life.

To break the cycle, we can turn to Stoicism, an ancient philosophy of life that uses various thinking techniques to help people maximize the positive emotions they experience such as everyday joy, while minimizing the negative emotions.

Philosopher William Irvine teaches us just how to access this wonderful stoic joy in our everyday life in this new episode: https://www.sissi-wang.com/episodes/ep-19-william-irvine

I hope you enjoy ☺

Coming home to Toronto now from Algeria after a week spent in the Sahara Desert (will post the entire journey later) and am so happy to be stopping by at my favourite city in the world - Paris.

Grabbed a croissant and a viennoise to go. But does anyone know how to eat a 🥐 elegantly without crumbs falling all over your jeans 🤔?

In case you've missed it yesterday, here's the latest episode on Wiser Living with author/memoirist Lindsay Wong about her crazy Asian family, how she rose above childhood trauma, whether we can truly escape intergenerational trauma, resilience, and how to get along with your parents.

It was a pleasure having Lindsay Wong on the show last month!

She had a crazy one-of-a-kind childhood with a mother who struggled with mental health issues and a father who wanted great things for his daughter but conveyed his hope in the meanest possible way. If you thought you had a tough childhood, wait until you read Lindsay's story documented in her 2018 memoir "The Woo Woo: How I Survived Ice Hockey, Drug Raids, Demons, and My Crazy Chinese Family.”

For our interview, I wanted to know how Lindsay managed to rise above her traumatic childhood and went on to thrive and create a life for herself that she loved. Along the way, we also chatted about:

• How she accidentally became an author
• bad luck, good luck
• The friction between immigrant parents and their children
• How writing helped her heal
• How she forgave her parents
• What her relationship is like with her parents now
• Whether we can truly escape intergenerational trauma
• And how to get along with difficult parents

Here's the newest episode, please enjoy!

Last month, I interviewed Toronto spoken word artist about his poetry but ended up creating an episode about mental health, art and healing.

A while back, Patrick opened up about his own mental health challenges in his poetry, then last year lost his brother Jordan to mental health struggles.

Patrick was deeply affected by Jordan’s death, but believes the only way to save lives is to talk about this uncomfortable subject and normalize the conversations around it for more people to seek help early.

So here’s Patrick and his story: https://www.sissi-wang.com/episodes/ep-17-patrick-de-belen
