Company of the Black Spear We are an early 15th Century Living History Group dedicated to recreating the lives of English Soldiers and their families from 1400-1420. What do we do?
(1)

We are a Living History group that has branches in New England and Central Florida that portrays common Soldiers and their families between 1400-1420 in Western Europe. We strive to recreate a living and working military unit during the Hundreds Years War. Though everyone wants to be a Knight, our goal is to portray common Soldiers of the period. Some of our members are active HEMA practitioners, so we actually fight with our weapons. Is it all fighting? No, there is allot to do in camp. We strive to portray as many roles in daily life as we can. We welcome all sorts of period trades and skills into the group. These range from cooking, sewing and other various crafts and skill sets. So what is Living History? Living History is the attempt to portray or recreate the past in life today. We strive to bring an authentic camp to life as close to the sources as we can. The clothes and equipment we wear are constructed with materials that would have been available during the time period we are recreating. How do I join? Just give us a PM or email us at [email protected]. From there the hard part is done. All you need to start is an open mind and a willingness to help the group. "Ad Punctum"

Cheers!

Today’s Member Spotlight is Nathan Q., who portrays a man-at-arms of foreign birth serving in the retinue.
It was not uncommon for foreigners to enter into indentures in hopes of advancing their social status and opportunities. Nathan’s kit and harness reflect a distinct continental influence from the Holy Roman Empire, offering a great contrast to the English style of harness represented in our camp.

Today in 1402, the Battle of Homildon Hill was fought, resulting in a decisive English victory over a Scottish raiding force. The aftermath of the battle helped fuel the growing rift between King Henry IV and the Percy family of Northumberland, eventually leading to rebellion and open confrontation at the Battle of Shrewsbury just a year later.

We recently attempted an overnight earthern oven based off the Townsends instructions posted some years back. This simple oven was not meant for extended use but a way to hastily bake fresh bread during a weekend long living history event History Alive .

We would say the experiment was quite the success and within 18 hours from starting the cob mixture we had freshly baked bread!

Check out this short video on how me made it! Link to original video instructions and material list in the comments below!
