MY STEPDAUGHTER CALLED ME IN TEARS, BEGGING TO BE PICKED UP FROM HER DAD'S HOUSE — WHAT I SAW WHEN I ARRIVED MADE ME GO GREY.

Jessy, my 8-year-old stepdaughter, stays at her dad's house from time to time. The last time she was supposed to stay there, I suddenly got a call from her at 11 p.m.

"PLEASE, YOU HAVE TO COME AND GET ME AS SOON AS POSSIBLE," she whispered, her eyes red from crying. "And don't tell mom."

The call cut off.

I was so scared that I don't even remember getting into the car and driving across town. It took me less than ten minutes to get there. Finally, I reached the house. I parked in front and noticed something that made my heart skip a beat — THE BACK DOOR WAS WIDE OPEN.

I jumped out of the car and ran toward the house. "Jessy!" I called, my voice louder than I meant it to be. No answer.

MY DIL THREW AWAY THE BIRTHDAY CAKE I MADE FOR MY GRANDDAUGHTER – MY SON'S REACTION SHOCKED ME EVEN MORE.

I am a good baker, I enjoy making sweet treats for everyone to enjoy.

But my DIL, Emily, suddenly started having an issue with it—particularly anything with sugar. She's obsessed with "healthy eating," and while I respect that, her disdain for everything I bake has been a constant thorn in my side.

Last week, it was my granddaughter's 7th birthday. I spent hours making her favorite cake—chocolate with buttercream frosting, decorated with flowers and sprinkles. I knew she'd love it. Everything was going fine until Emily came over earlier and I could feel the judgment rolling off her.

Emily: "Oh...you're really serving this? All that sugar?"
Me: "It's her birthday, Emily. A little cake isn't going to hurt her."

I stepped out of the kitchen to finish setting up the decorations, and when I came back, the cake was gone.

AFTER I SAW THE BABY MY WIFE GAVE BIRTH TO, I WAS READY TO LEAVE HER – BUT THEN SHE REVEALED A SECRET THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING.

My wife and I are both Black. We've been together for 10 years and married for 6. We had been planning for a baby for a long time, so when my wife finally got pregnant, I was overjoyed.

But, she asked me not to be in the delivery room, even though I wanted to support her, so I respected her wishes.

The person in the seat next to mine asked if I could switch seats with his wife as they had just gotten married and were on their honeymoon.

I congratulated him on his nuptials and asked where his wife was sitting. He pointed toward the back of the plane, in economy.

I declined to switch seats. He asked if there was any way to convince me. I offered to switch if he paid the difference between the seats, AU$1,000.

He smirked and refused. I congratulated him once again and put in my earbuds. From then on, he decided to spoil my flight. Suddenly, he started:

- coughing loudly;
- watching a movie without his headphones;
- dropping crumbly snacks on me;
- and finally, his wife came to him, invading my space, arrogantly GRINNING.

"Hello? It's me, from next door," I called out, hoping to hear some sign of life inside.

Nothing. The house remained eerily quiet, the silence pressing down. After what felt like an eternity, I hesitantly pushed the door open and stepped inside.

My footsteps sounded loud against the wooden floor as I wandered through the rooms, each one emptier than the last.

Then, in the living room, I found this baby girl.

"Oh God, your mother must be going crazy now!" I exclaimed aloud. She was sitting on the floor, holding a piece of paper in her tiny hands. With trembling hands, I unfolded it.

"Don't waste time looking for me if you find this note. She's yours if you want her. We know you'll take good care of her. And please, forgive me."
