Why in the world do we need an activist critics group?!

It’s simple: If women, people of color, the disabled, the elderly and those in the LGBTQ rainbow aren’t well-represented in the newsroom, in staff boxes, in bylines and on the red carpet, it’s very likely those segments won’t be well-represented or well-depicted on the big and small screens. And a dearth of content that truly reflects the melting pot that is America hinders us all. Many in Hollywood — which still lacks representation behind the camera and in executive suites — continue to pay lip service to the concepts of “diversity” and “inclusion” (just look at photos of their top employees on Linkedin). CGEM is here to help poke the biz in the right direction.
