Shakahola Case Hearing Updates: Shocking Testimonies and New Developments
Mombasa Law Courts –

The trial of Paul Mackenzie and his co-defendants continues to reveal harrowing details about the Shakahola massacre. Two witnesses, under the protection of the Witness Protection Agency, testified today, shedding light on the grim events.

One witness recounted how Mackenzie referred to his followers as “Wateule” (the chosen ones) and non-followers as “watu wamataifa” (people of the nations). The witness described how her mother, influenced by Mackenzie’s TV sermons, moved their family to Shakahola. There, Mackenzie instructed his followers to fast until death to see Jesus. The witness, who faced severe punishment for breaking the fast, eventually escaped.

The second witness revealed that children who disobeyed fasting orders were tied and tortured. Mackenzie allegedly ordered that children fast first, followed by youths, women, and men, with himself being the last to die. This testimony echoed statements from previous hearings.

In a significant development, Chief Magistrate Hon. Alex Ithuku dropped charges against two accused following their deaths due to illness while in custody. Mary Mbita and Edison Safari, also known as Baba Sifa, passed away while receiving medical care.

The case against Mackenzie and his co-defendants is set to continue this week.
