WEDNESDAY STREAM PLOTTED!

Sorry if I haven't streamed these past few days. Been busy doubling my job hunt efforts while planning the new arrangement of everything in my workspace.

That said, I will also be deep-cleaning the main PC, redoing the cable management, and repositioning both desks tomorrow so we can have more space to move around in.

I've been abusing Photo Mode in Stellar Blade in 4K on my phone these past few nights via Apollo for Windows and Artemis on Android, which let me come up with super nice shots with great depth and dynamic range compared to my cheap-ass 1080p IPS monitor.

This game has a world of potential.

The art direction is great, the tone is super dark -- even darker for something made by the same studio behind the two Ori games. The combat is thrilling despite some controls and movements being still a little janky. The character building has quite the depth to it.

I can see they are looking to really nail a Dark Souls vibe with this game while implementing other elements and systems. They probably just need to add finishers and a variety of enemy death animations based on the last weapon that hit them, and you have a dark, gritty, violent open-world isometric action RPG. I would highly recommend those over co-op and PvP as those can come later down the line before the game gets out of Early Access and into Full Release status.

Today's Dungeon Siege II base game finale stream may start at 6:00 PM (GMT+8) if it is on. Internet's been wonky again, and I've been dealing with intermittent connectivity issues for days now, which have also been evident in my past streams with all the disconnections, etc. Sorry for the inconvenience, but rest assured I'm finishing the base game and starting Broken World expansion on stream.

In the meantime, I'm checking out what's new in this game off-stream, and after out next two games, we might pick up on it.

I don't have a single favorite game of all time, so here's from each decade:

80's - it's a toss-up between Super Mario Bros. and Contra
90's - Castlevania SotN, and Resident Evil 2
2000's - Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock
2010's - Ghost of Tsushima, and Ori and the Blind Forest
2020's - Resident Evil 4 Remake, and Stellar Blade

I BEAT NINE SOLS OFF-STREAM AND UNLOCKED BOTH ENDINGS

Sorry for not finishing this on-stream. I wanted to, but internet and backlog said no 😅 My internet literally just came back an hour ago.

Anyway, this 2D Sekiro-like Metroidvania from 2024 went under my radar mainly because I was so focused on Ender Magnolia, but it's up there with the Ender Lilies franchise and Ori games as some of my favorite modern Metroidvanias ever. The aesthetic is unique (absolutely never heard of Taopunk until I saw this game), the hand-drawn characters are awesome, the story is dark (and I mean really dark and gruesome), and the combat is so good!

Only cons for me are the following:

1. Fast travel - they should have made it so you can fast-travel from one node to another without having to go to the central node first
2. Combat music - it doesn't fade out as quickly after each encounter, giving the false impression that there are still hostiles on either side of the screen
3. Ranged skills - They could have limited it to the three arrow classes instead of making all 9 available when they are just essentially three arrow types that increase in damage output

Definitely a must-add to your library if you are growing a collection of modern Metroidvania games. Here are some notable quotes from the game.
