Researchers at ETH Zurich have created MenstruAI, a smart health tool that turns menstrual blood into a non-invasive way to monitor health using a smartphone and a special sanitary pad.

The pad contains a paper-based sensor, like a COVID test strip, that reacts to key proteins linked to inflammation, cancer, and endometriosis. As the blood touches the sensor, it changes color based on the levels of biomarkers like CRP, CEA, and CA-125.

Researchers at the University of Texas at Austin have created a thin, wireless electronic "tattoo" that sticks to the forehead and tracks brain activity to monitor mental workload in real time.

Using EEG to measure brain waves and sensors to track eye movements, the e-tattoo detects signs of mental fatigue and cognitive strain during tasks.

Tested on volunteers, it showed up to 89% accuracy in predicting mental overload for one participant.

The e-tattoo has a small battery pack worn behind the ear and thin sensors that stick comfortably to the skin. Each disposable tattoo costs under $20, and the battery pack with computer chips costs about $200.

The world’s first humanoid robot fighting competition took place on May 25 in Hangzhou, China. A robot named “AI Strategist” came out on top, showing off powerful punches and smart moves.

The event was part of China Media Group’s World Robot Contest: Mech Combat Arena. Robots built by Unitree Robotics battled in fast-paced matches, copying human fighting techniques with impressive accuracy.

Each fight had three rounds of two minutes. Robots earned points for strikes—1 point for arm hits, 3 for leg kicks—with penalties for knockdowns or slow recovery.

Four teams of human operators controlled the robots. In the first match, “AI Strategist,” beat “Silk Artisan” after landing a strong knee strike in the third round. In the final, “AI Strategist” knocked out “Energy Guardian” in all three rounds to win the championship.

Chinese biotech company XellSmart has received approval from both the U.S. FDA and China’s NMPA to start a Phase I clinical trial for a new spinal cord injury treatment.

The therapy uses donor stem cells (not from the patient) to help regenerate damaged spinal tissue, aiming to restore function—not just manage symptoms like older treatments.

The trial is being done with Sun Yat-sen University's Third Affiliated Hospital, a top center for spinal cord research.

A 30-meter (98.4 feet) tall 3D-printed tower now stands in the small Swiss village of Mulegns.

Called Tor Alva—or “White Tower”—it’s the tallest 3D-printed tower in the world, built by ETH Zurich and Nova Fundaziun Origen.

The tower is made from 32 concrete columns that were 3D-printed off-site over five months, then transported and assembled on top of an existing building.

It has four floors, a dome roof, and a spiral staircase connecting each level. At the top is a performance space for art, music, and theater.

Guided tours began on May 23, 2025. Starting in July, it will also host cultural events. The tower is expected to stay in Mulegns for five years and can be taken apart and moved if needed.
