Been driving this Subaru Ascent for almost a week now! Full, in-depth YT tour coming soon but for now here are my initial thoughts!
The highs:
-IIHS top safety pick+
-The Ascent was also 1 of 4 SUVs tested to score a “good” rating in the IIHS new second row crash testing. I suspect this has to do with the fact it is one of the few SUVs to include pretensioners in the 2nd row.
-3rd row middle seat is actually a decent size and I was able to install a car seat!
-Slightly lower price points depending on trim level.
-Spacious 2nd row, sunshades, ceiling vents and good visibility.
The lows:
-Outdated infotainment system, sorry I said it. I’m not saying it’s a deal breaker but it worth noting.
-Bench not available on all trims
-3rd row leg room is lacking and features a raised floor which makes it tight for car seats and uncomfortable for adults.
- The ascent has been very up and down with reliability- for example the 21&22 model year has below average reliability scores. The 23 has seemed to improve but it’s a little early to tell.
