Meet Alex, our lead graphic designer (or as well normally refer to her as our “superhero”)

Alex has officially been with the Lume team (formally MK Media) for 2 years. With a degree in applied arts and diploma in graphic design, she has brought knowledge and skill to the team the rest of us could not even fathom. Technology is such a great tool in our business because it allows Alex to work remotely but still keep in touch with the team and most importantly our clients. ��Alex is also an entrepreneur and has an incredible stationery business that is always a hit at local markets (PS. She does take custom orders).

Most small business could use a graphic designer whether it for your website, your business cards or your social media graphics. Luckily with Lume, you get a team of 5 for the price of 1 (Alex included). Here’s a truth bomb: No one actually cares about your brand.

They care about:
🫵 How you make them feel.
🧐 Whether you understand them.
🤠 If you solve a real problem in their life.

Yet, so many businesses are stuck posting polished content that no one relates to.

People don’t engage with your brand because of fancy graphics or clever slogans. They engage because they see themselves in your content.

Your audience is made up of real humans with real struggles. Are you speaking to them, or just making noise?

I'm going to take some time over the next few days to highlight a few local businesses that have played pivotal roles in the development of MK Media.

First up is Sandra Miller Floral Designs. When I first met Sandra Kilpatrick Miller and her team, I was visiting her floral shop with another client of mine. We instantly hit it off, and as I handed her my business card and explained what we do, I hoped she would give me a call.

Fast forward to today: we've helped Sandra and her team through a complete rebrand, shown them the ropes of content creation, launched campaigns, and even sat together when Meta was giving us a run for our money (if you know, you know).

We had SO many laughs along the way.

What I don’t think their team fully realizes is how big of a role they played in allowing MK Media to flourish into the agency we are today. They let us bring fun ideas forward, listened to our feedback, had open and honest conversations, and reminded us just how enjoyable content creation and marketing can be.

Congratulations on 15 years in business, and here’s to 15 more! 💐

Lots of people I talk to mention how they “need” help with marketing, but what does that actually mean? 👀

Let’s break it down 😎

Marketing has become a lot more than just throwing out content or boosting posts. It’s about creating a real connection with your audience. It’s about understanding their needs, speaking their language, and showing them why your business can solve their problems.

In my opinion.. its about telling a story 📖

It’s why I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all strategies. Some businesses have amazing ideas on how they want to showcase their brand, but struggle with ex*****on. Others know exactly what it takes but just don’t have the time to keep up with creating reels, crafting captions, or designing graphics. I even had one client tell me it took them 10 hours to make an infographic—needless to say, our graphic designer quickly became their best friend!

The moral is.. this is something I’ve come to learn myself: it’s okay to ask for help. We all want to do it all, but sometimes, the best thing you can do is let go and bring in support. I’ve been there—juggling everything, trying to keep up, and realizing that it's just not sustainable. So, whether you're struggling to get your ideas out there or feeling overwhelmed by the demands of content creation, know that it’s perfectly fine to lean on someone who can help you bring your vision to life.
