The Lockport community turned up Saturday for the ribbon-cutting and celebration of the 64,200-square-foot Kenan Civic Arena. Attendees were able to get a first look inside the $16.5 million facility that will provide the athletic, arts, and learning space for a flurry of new programs.

The Cataract Stairs are open for tourists at Niagara Falls State Park. The $12 million project also includes a new overlook located within 35 feet of the American Falls, providing visitors with a new vantage point of the mighty cataracts.

The Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls is currently closed to traffic into Canada after a pickup truck crashed into the Duty Free Americas shop. An employee of the store was suffered injuries and was taken to Erie County Medical Center.

Mayor Robert Restaino said Friday that more than 400 blighted lots and properties have been cleaned since his office executed a contract with a private landscaping company under the citywide state of emergency imposed on July 20. A Lake Ontario waterspout near Olcott that reportedly made landfall was the first such instance in Niagara County in more than three decades. For Bill and Mary Clarke, who live on Althea Street near Krull Park, Wednesday's storm caused a more than 100-year-old tree to fall on their house’s roof.
