Granted this picture was taken on the first day of summer in Iceland but finding a little bit of winter while on trip was surreal and one thing about winter is that it is often beautiful!

PSA: your cellphone battery will die so much quicker in cold weather! That’s why it’s essential to pack an external charger when you’re traveling in the winter. Or else, you’ll end up like me, wandering around NYC in the snow and cold with a dead phone, asking hotels if they have a charger you can borrow for a few minutes… (don’t be like me!!)

We want to give a big shout out to Barry Choi for joining us and talking all things Travel Hacking! Fun Fact, it was Barry's website that gave our very own Jenn her inspiration for her travel/finance blog - 'Will Save for Travel'! A real full circle moment!

Meggan's 2nd opportunity to use points was last year for her flights to Amsterdam for both her and Peter.

She saved for a lot of years as it was a personal card that took time to build up points and still to their surprise, they still didn't have enough points to cover all the taxes & fees. Their flights ended up costing just over $350 total out of pocket. It was still a great deal but ensure you are looking at all of the ways you can earn points and if you cannot cover the difference, ensure you have enough points before you book!

So always keep that in mind when booking on points, it isn't just about the flights but also those pesky taxes and fees!

'Travel Hacking Tips with Barry Choi' - out now!

Meggan's first trip on points was in 2010 to Chicago!

Points and their value have certainly changed over the years and you have to work harder for less but in 2010, Meggan and Peter were able to cash in some Air Miles and take a trip to beautiful Chicago!

They enjoyed deep dish pizza, a Chicago Cubs game, visited the Willis Tower and Navy Pier, saw Sting and Trudie Styler walking down the street, walked by the fiming of one of the Transformers movies and more - it was quite an adventure and thanks to Air Miles, mostly free!

He shares with us tips, best credit cards for points & value plus how you can stack or convert points for travel or products.

He also shared with us some of the perks he has gotten through hacking. He has been able to share his rewards with his family including his daughter and parents.

Business class on international travel - how very exciting and her face says it all! What a great core travel memory!

I (Jenn) got my first travel-specific credit card earlier this year, before I headed to the Yukon! Not only did it get me a free checked bag, but it also gave me access to a lounge, and I earned points on my trip, which I plan to use for my 2026 travel plans!

Travel hacking seems complicated, but if you learn little by little, you can save money on your travels!
