In Tubigon, Bohol, little is known of Ilijan Hill, a magnificent volcanic plug standing proudly amidst the world-famous Bohol Chocolate Hills. A volcanic plug is like a hardened plug of lava that forms in an air vent of an extinct volcano. Volcanic plugs are remnants of ancient volcanic activity and can vary in size from small hills to towering formations.
Ilijan Hill, rising 162 meters above picturesque agricultural landscapes, emerged from the solidified magma. Encompassing 9.2 hectares of lush grasslands and surrounded by coconut and banana trees, the hill stands as a testament to nature's beauty. Situated in Barangays Ilijan Norte, Ilijan Sur, and Pinayagan Sur, it has become a symbol of pride for the Philippines recognized as the country's first identified volcanic plug.
Acknowledging its profound geological, historical, and cultural significance, Tubigon's local government took decisive action to produce a world-class tourism project that will benefit the local community and economy as a whole. LGU Tubigon is in-charged with unlocking the tourism potential of Ilijan Hill, aligning with the municipality's vision of transforming it into a thriving Eco-Tourism destination that will educate generations of its geological importance without harming its natural state.
As LGU Tubigon embraces the Tourism Champions Challenge by proposing a Tourist Welcome Pavilion, it envisions Ilijan Hill's evolution into a premier tourist destination signals an exciting shift from traditional agriculture towards a vibrant future and placing Tubigon in the Philippine tourism map. The project holds significant tourism potential by establishing an infrastructure to improve the socio-economic condition and well-being of the Tubigon communities.
Winning a project valued at 25 million pesos is a clear indication that the aspiration for a thriving local tourism industry can be realized through collaboration and commitment.
