What kind of message actually encourages people to adopt a greener lifestyle? New research explores how different motivational messages influence our pro-environmental behavior. In a study with 420 university students, researchers found that messages highlighting competence (the ability to make a difference) and relatedness (connection to others) were significantly more effective at increasing pro-environmental actions than messages focusing on autonomy or choice. The findings suggest that in a collectivist culture, appealing to our ability to contribute and our care for the community are powerful motivators for sustainable change.

How do we bridge the massive climate funding gap? This compelling essay explores how the Willingness-to-Pay (WTP) methodology can translate public support for environmental protection into concrete financial solutions. By quantifying the value individuals place on non-market goods such as clean air and water, WTP provides a powerful tool for policymakers to design effective and equitable funding mechanisms. The authors uniquely connect this economic approach to the ethical principles of Pope Francis’s Laudato Si', demonstrating how we can respond to the "cry of the earth" by aligning financial policy with our shared moral responsibility to care for our common home. Discover how this framework can turn advocacy into action. Read the full article at https://archium.ateneo.edu/jmgs/vol13/iss1/1/
