Hi Guys!!!
Hope everyone is doing well. While I would love to take this chance to talk about my current experiences down here in Norman, Oklahoma, we have some serious business to attend to regarding next week's weather!
There is currently a slight risk that spans from just south of the Missouri Bootheel, all the way through Illinois, and most of Indiana, stopping at Southern Michigan.
So what's going on?
- There is a trough (region of low pressure) that will bring up some unseasonably warm air to the region (enjoy it!!!). From there, the trough will start to eject. Closer to the surface, this will look like the classic cold front setup.
So what looks to be the main hazard?
-The main hazard looks to be damaging winds.
-We CAN NOT rule out tornadoes with this setup. Due to favorable thermodynamics, such as satisfactory moisture, hodographs that are in the realm of favorable for tornado development, and potential for surface-based cyclogenesis (a region of low pressure forming due to a cool thing called a shortwave, lowering pressure (ask me if you have more questions on it!)). The point is, the region that will most likely experience tornadoes, if any at all, will be on the western side of the Slight Risk, but we still can't rule it out for our area completely!
So when should we be expecting any severe weather?
- Late Tuesday Afternoon into the evening hours
- With time, the models will get better with timing!
Finally, I will always continue to update the South Bend area in any event regarding severe convective weather. With that said, as a college student, I've come to realize that I have little life outside of schoolwork (Yes I can thank my Calculus 3 class for that). I highly recommend everyone follow my friends at the Indiana Weather Network, and of course, make sure to follow the US National Weather Service Northern Indiana
