🎉 We’ve got a new look! SCAS has a brand new logo and website—our first major update in over a decade!
http://www.scas.org.uk/

As the UK’s leading authority on human–companion animal interaction, it’s important that our brand and communications are clear, accessible and appealing. Our refreshed look reflects our commitment to promote evidence-based practice and connect with a wider, more diverse audience.

We know that change can raise questions—especially in the charity sector—but rest assured: these changes were carried out with minimal spend and maximum purpose. We’ve retained key elements of our brand identity, like our core colour and the symbolic triangle, while making it easier for people to connect with our work.

Episode 44 - Dr Elizabeth Ormerod: Bond-Centred Practice and Community Outreach, pt2/2.

In this follow up episode, veterinary surgeon Dr Elizabeth Ormerod BVMS, Chair of the The Society for Companion Animal Studies (SCAS), returns to explore two additional pillars of her four decade career: campaigning for companion-animal inclusive housing and creating one of the UK’s first companion-animal loss support programmes within general practice.

Dr Ormerod explains how grass roots advocacy in Fleetwood challenged local “no pets” policies and sparked a wider conversation about companion animals in social housing, eventually leading to national debate. We also look at her bond centred approach to end of life care, growth charts, early behaviour counselling, and multidisciplinary bereavement teams designed to support both clients and veterinary staff. Along the way Dr Ormerod discusses strategies for preventing compassion fatigue, the importance of community networks, and why affordable, flexible payment schemes remain crucial as corporate vet ownership expands.

Did you enjoy listening to our most recent episode as much as we enjoyed talking with The Society for Companion Animal Studies (SCAS) chair, Dr. Elizabeth Ormerod?

Much of what Dr. Ormerod discussed about community-centred practice and veterinary social work and promoting safe practices in animal-assisted services (and ensuring species -specific needs are met) speaks to the theme of this years SCAS Conference.

The conference brings together experts and pioneers in the field of animal-assisted services. Whether you are working in education, social work, veterinary care, healthcare, or simply passionate about the role animals play in human wellbeing, this event is for you!

This year’s conference, 'Unified Voices: Why the Human-Animal Bond is Important to You as Professionals', will include international speakers and engaging presentations. Continuing Professional Development (CPD) certificates will be issued to our participants.

The event takes place virtually on Sunday October 19 and recordings will be available to all delegates. Register now to claim an early-bird discount.
