I Hear His Whisper...Surrender your convenience.

Beloved, hear the tenderness in my voice as I instruct you in my worthy ways today. Why are you holding so tightly to your plans for your life? Do you not know that I know you better than you know yourself? You can trust me to guide you into goodness, which will taste sweeter than anything you’ve experienced yet. Being comfortable is not a value of my kingdom. Convenience is not better than compassion. Surrender your fears about losing your comfort, and I will show you a bigger and brighter future!

Do you forget that all-surrendering love marks my path? Whenever you submit your own will to mine, I will lead you into places that require courage. I guide you into the unknown where all is familiar to me though you may struggle to believe that’s enough. My faithfulness will put your fears to rest as it continues to work out in your life. Though change comes, you can always trust me to be with you through it all. Don’t resist the inevitable shifts. Rather turn your gaze toward me again and again. There is no lack of assurance in my love.

Distinguished by God

Graciously, God raises up deliverers whenever his people cry out for help. He is the one who distinguishes leaders and who chooses those who can handle the task. God-appointed leadership is always better than man’s choice. The champion-deliverers of Israel were not perfect, but they were yielded to YAHWEH’s leadership.

May we remain connected to God through hearts of submission. When we allow him to guide us, he will raise us up at the right time. He will use our lives in various ways, with specific purposes to show off the restorative and redemptive power of his mercy. Let us yield to his love, for he will transform us in its life-giving light. In him, there is more than enough room for growth and for overcoming our limitations. As we yield to him, he distinguishes us in the ways that he sees fit. He is truly great.

Jesus, you are the ultimate champion-deliverer. I will follow you anywhere you lead. Use me, mold me, and transform me in your image. Thank you!

I lost one of my closest friends today. I feel hollowed out, experiencing most of the stages of grief all at once. This person helped me through a hard year and now they are gone. I find myself wondering, next time life throws me a curveball, I won’t be able to give them a call. How will I find encouragement? And now anxiety rears its head. A constant encouraging person for the last decade is now missing.

We all experience grief, loss, depression, and anxiety. Life throws us all curveballs. A verse people often turn to in these times is Jeremiah 29:11.

“Here’s what Yahweh says to you: ‘I know all about the marvelous destiny I have in store for you, a future planned out in detail. My intention is not to harm you but to surround you with peace and prosperity and to give you a beautiful future, glistening with hope.'”

This verse is true, and God works to use painful circumstances for good. But what do we do in the meantime while we wait on those plans?

Giving some context to this verse, the prophet Jeremiah is writing to the Israelites who had been hauled into exile in Babylon. Jeremiah had warned Israel that if they didn’t shape up and follow God, they would be conquered by Babylon, which is what happened. Many were taken away as slaves. Even though their present circumstances are rough, God promises them a future in verse 11. But in the preceding verse it says that this promised future is 70 years away!

“I say to you: After Babylon has ruled over you for seventy years, I will show compassion to you and will fulfill my promise of giving you good things, and I will bring you back to your land.”

The Israelite exiles had to wait. And we often must wait for the verse 11 promise. So, what do we do in the meantime?

Our Family Tree

Jesus is the vine, and we are his branches. We could say Jesus stands at the head of our family tree. Our beauty, wisdom, and divine nature have been passed down to us from him. All of heaven looks at us and sees the offspring of glory. Is this what we see when we look in the mirror? Is this the truth we pull from when we reach out our hands to bless others? His very life, the expression of his power and majesty upon the earth, lives inside of us, waiting to be released.

We are radiant. Take a moment and think about that. Our beauty isn’t based on how we look or feel each day. It isn’t temporary, and it isn’t as fickle as what’s on the outside. We are true vessels of perfect glory. When we imagine Jesus’ beauty, we mustn’t forget that same beauty is alive within us.

Jesus, you are the delight of heaven. You are fathomless beauty swirling inside of me. All of your mystery is contained within my flesh. All of your glory has been entrusted to someone as fragile as me. I honor all that you are and stand in awe—not only for who you are but for who you are in me.

I Hear His Whisper...Hold to the vision.

As time passes, I remain the same. I am constant in love, steadfast in truth, and loyal in pursuit. Nothing can alter my character—no situation can affect my compassion. I will transform every hardship with the flood of my love. Remember what I spoke to you in the beginning when you first heard my voice. My promises are true, and I will never let you down.

Have the winds of change confused your senses? Lean into my love today, and you will find that the plumb line of my mercy will make everything come into alignment once again. Though seasons shift and unknowns are inevitable, nothing is a mystery to me. Realign your heart with mine. Let trust be the rhythm that centers you through your every breath. When your mind is flooded with information that distracts, come back to the foundation of your very being. I am the God who created you, and I have not wavered from my intentions. Fill your mind with my Word, and you will find that peace will guide you. Fix your eyes on my goodness, and you will see it all around you.

Encounter God in Prayer…A Cry for the Lost

God, gather the outcasts and bring them home. So many have lost their way, led astray by the schemes of the enemy; restore them to us. Run to them with your mercy. Leap over the walls they have placed in front of you and conquer them with your love. Make yourself undeniably real, once again. I stand before you on their behalf.

The spiritually homeless have nowhere else to turn. Their faith has been crushed to dust. They grasp for answers that can only be found in you, yet they are blinded by confusion and pain. Breathe life into their dry bones, heal the wounds of their shattered hearts. Release them from their self-made prisons. Transform them with your love.

You are the victory that brings the dead back to life—the beauty that will soon be seen upon them. Illuminate their darkness with the glory of your love. They will become nothing more than blood-washed fragments of who they have been. I praise you, for the battle has already been won! Your love is stronger than death!

People may mock you when you’re wrong, but I will pick you up when you fall and will set your feet on solid ground. My words have the power to eliminate all of your fears. They have grace to erase your flaws. Listen to my words and cherish all that I say to you. I will bring you into a new place where you see more clearly and love more deeply.

I will make myself known to you, and you’ll see that I am at work in your life. You will rejoice because of what I’m doing within you, for you will be one who overcomes. Teachable Heart

When the wise are corrected, they appreciate the value that correction brings. If we want to grow in our understanding, we must remain teachable. We are all still learning more about God and his kingdom. Each of us is still learning about the world and its ways. There is so much more to discover, and this will always be the case. The universe is still expanding, so why would we be so foolish as to think that we know all there is to know?

A humble and teachable heart is a wise person’s strength. The proud refuse to hear differing perspectives, but the wise take the time to listen in order to understand. We must choose the path we will take. The exceedingly good news is that no matter how resistant we have been before, we can choose at any moment to quiet ourselves and learn from others. Correction is humbling, but it is an opportunity to expand our own world.

Wise Teacher, I do not presume to have it all figured out. In fact, I admit how much more I have to learn. May I remain open to learning from your Spirit and from others today.
