In true Pumf style, here's a promo video for a song from the Howl in the Typewriter album 'Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Mind', which was released a year ago. People might say we should be advertising the NEW Howl album 'Cutting Wood When The Wind Is Blowing' . . . but, there'll be plenty of time for that after we're dead.

'The Cosmic Annihilator' is a song by the spacedronenoiserock unit Heffalump Trap. This version was recorded between 2022 and 2024, and appears on the album ...

The closing date for the PAWGASM competition was the 7th August, and you all excelled yourselves by not entering in droves. The number of entries we received almost reached one, proving without a doubt that you are a Nation Of Animal Haters* - for who wouldn't want to win a lovely blanket for a loved pet, were that pet indeed loved?
Anyway. The winning entry was in fact a non-entry, thus:
"I don’t have a submission for the PAWGASM competition but think that the competition should be submitted photo of pets with paws and the word PAWGASM featured in the photo (in some way)", which was sent in by Gareth Jackson. He wins the blanket, which is in the post to his cat.
So Pumf is setting world records again, this time by creating the first instance in world history of awarding a competition prize to someone who specifically stated his intention not to enter the competition.

Shaun Robert's IFAR Label has just released another in the series of compilation albums containing tracks all 4.33 in duration, this time called 'The Word' (and featuring a Howl in the Typewriter track at number 7 on the tracklist). I've just vastly improved my Sunday morning by listening to the album, and although it's too late for you to do the same you could vastly enhance some other time period of your life by listening:

Finally, the third of the three recently-released albums is A Piece of Steam by Quougnpt - a CD-R in a brown paper bag, or a digital version. Full details at http://www.batcow.co.uk/pumf/pumf.htm #910.
The sixth album from Quougnpt, and THIS time we know what to expect . . . yes? The usual barrage of soundbites cluster together and create otherworlds of the imagination, track-hopping from one train of thought to another as if demented gremlins are switching the points at random. Is that the sound of Hooper Swans getting all rhythmic and glitchy? (no - they're Bewick Swans). Will Charlie complete his mission, or be foiled at the last step? Quougnpt attempt to set things straight and make sense of the situation/s, though the results might not be as you imagined. "Switch it off Daddy, it's spoiling my brain."

I've been chatting with Ken Foster, who is working on an article about Blackpool's music scene for his website plus-one. He has already posted a review of the last Howl in the Typewriter album 'Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Mind', which he enjoyed . . . if you'd like to read his review, click the link:

I've just finished reading 'Sea of Tails', a book subtitled 'My Life With Cats', by Bess Burton. I guess the stereotypical image of a crazy cat lady is the one popularised in The Simpsons, and whilst it doesn't seem like Bess's situation exactly matches that I'd suggest that there needs to be an element of that craziness, that fanaticism, in order to be able to devote so much of one's time to looking after cats. Bess (and Lawrence Burton, her husband) appear to have devoted their entire lives to their home cat colony, as well as to the feral cat population of San Antonio, Texas - colonies of which they visit to feed and assist in the managing of - and this book details their activities, as well as giving a potted history of Bess's life story in relation to cats. It also gives an exhaustive list of every cat to have ever been part of Bess's life. The dedication which the cats receive oozes from the pages of the book, which takes the reader on a journey through the highs and lows, the troubles and satisfaction, and the sometimes eye-watering expense of having been chosen as a feline servant. It's a fascinating glimpse into something akin to obsession, but told in such a manner that it seems quite logical to just pop out and find oneself a stray kitten or two . . . or possibly, as the book itself warns, fourteen or fifteen. It's a heart-warming read, and one which will restore your faith in human kindness, a trait that seems to have all-but disappeared in recent times. Click the link to buy your own copy.

Bess Burton never really considered that she might one day have a home full of cats; but as anyone will tell you, one cat leads to another, and those two may in turn lead to fourteen or fifteen. Nevertheless, when the call came - because it is indeed a calling - she grasped that metaphorical nettle....
