The East Bristol Liveable Neighbourhood trial scheme is officially being made permanent. 🚦🌳

Bristol City Council’s Transport and Connectivity Committee has voted 5-4 to approve permanent infrastructure across Barton Hill and parts of Redfield and St George. The pilot scheme, which has been in place since 2024 to reduce through-traffic, will transition into a long-term project estimated to cost around £10 million, though legal challenges are expected before it is officially finalised.

🌳 The Upgrades: Temporary materials like movable planters and bollards will be swapped out for high-quality paving, permanent street designs, dropped kerbs, pedestrian crossings, and new trees. The project will also alter the layout of key intersections, including the Church Road junction with Chalks Road.

Bristol’s famous indoor amazement park is celebrating its fourth anniversary with a brand-new identity and summer discounts! 🌀🐯

Wake The Tiger has officially named its flagship Bristol site 'the Dream Factory' as the organisation prepares to open a second permanent location in London. To celebrate four years and over half a million visitors, the venue is launching special pricing perks and new creative installations throughout the school holidays.

🌀 The Highlights: Visitors can check out the newly added 'Junk Drop' bio-electrical installation in Depot X, alongside a new weekend outdoor space called the Junkyard. Family-friendly, dream-themed craft sessions are also running every Monday from 10am to 12pm.
💡 Good to know: From July 20 to September 2, the park is taking part in the Great British Summer Saver and offering reduced admission prices, which also include children's café lunches. Plus, anyone booking a summer visit before September 2 is automatically entered to win tickets to the upcoming London attraction.

The Christmas Steps is one of the city's oldest and most beloved streets. Despite the festive name (which actually stems from a corruption of its old name, Knifesmith Street!), this historic arts quarter is adored by Bristolians all year round and offers something unique on every level.

🪜 The Shops: Today, the steep 17th-century steps are packed with independent gems. You can grab a pint at the historic 16th-century Christmas Steps pub, hire out a tiny cinema at the world’s longest-running video store (20th Century Flicks), play board games at Chance & Counters, or grab some food at the rotating kitchen pop-up, The Scrandit!
💡 Good to know: The iconic steps themselves weren't added until 1669. The street is also home to Ahh T***s, which serves up outrageously amazing boutique cakes in a building that was once believed to house one of the UK's first-ever fish and chip shops.

A brand-new map has just been launched highlighting Bristol's best quiet, cool, and accessible urban spaces for anyone needing a peaceful escape from the city centre! 🌿🗺️

City centres can often be noisy, stressful, and difficult to navigate. To help combat this, a citizen-led project led by the University of Gloucestershire has created the ‘Bristol Quiet Areas’ map to point locals towards nature-rich havens—especially designed to help those who are neurodivergent or experience sensory overwhelm.

🌿 The Spaces: Created through soundwalks, workshops, and accessibility audits, the map highlights Temple Church Gardens, St Stephen's Church Gardens, and Millennium Promenade as the top tranquil spots to unwind in.
💡 Good to know: The map is packed with useful information, including helpful social stories, clear icons for benches and steps, expected noise levels, and how shaded each area is! You can find the full ‘Bristol Quiet Areas Plan’ on the Visit Bristol website right now.

Did you know the door to Bristol’s oldest pub is rumoured to be covered in layers of human skin? 🚪🍺

Dating all the way back to 1606, The Hatchet Inn on Frogmore Street is famously known as the oldest-running pub in Bristol. While it is a friendly, traditional boozer today, this Tudor-style pub has a dark and thrilling 400-year history—including serving as a favourite haunt for the infamous pirate Blackbeard!

🍺 The Pub: Located right next to the O2 Academy, it is the perfect spot for a pre-gig pint, offering a range of cask and craft beers, a superb beer garden, pool tables, and Sunday roasts.
💡 Good to know: Legend says the front door is covered in the skin of an executed convict beneath layers of black paint! Back in the 18th century, the pub was also notorious for its violent sports, housing a rat pit, a cock-fighting ring, and bare-knuckle boxing matches.
