Positive Curiosity is a powerful attitude and a learnable method within the Solution-Focused Approach. A body that has turned to face someone, eyes that look with interest and positive glee, mouth that asks and stays shut for a moment, ears that listen, these are all actions of Positive Curiosity.
With positive curiosity, you convey a will to learn of the other person’s world. It translates to: “You are important to me. I want to get to know you. Tell me, I want to understand.” When we hear what the other person really thinks, feels, and experiences, it helps in establishing cooperation. With a child who is not yet capable of verbalizing their emotions, Positive Curiosity plays an important role. It allows you to go along with what she likes, become led by her initiative, and take interest in what she brings into the interaction between you two. When there is room for them, experiences and hopes start to form little by little.
